If you look closely, there's a part of a news item in the background that says Will Smith's character was killed in an accident with alien technology.

When kid Kirk stole a car. While I'm okay with the callback, could they have made this look a little less like a Star Trek film?

What really bothers me is that I can't tell if it's just the preview. There are a lot of beats in there that felt like Star Trek, but they were quickly wiped out by "Boom, pow, kick, throw, etc.".

I'm hoping that's because it's the first trailer and they want to get your attention, but the actual pacing of the film will be a bit more Trek-y.

Well from what I can tell it looks like an original story, so that will make it better than Into Darkness by default. I swear there were a lot of good things in that movie that were ultimately ruined by Abram's insistence of re-enacting scenes that were done better in Wrath of Khan without any of the context that made them work in the first place.

I was just explaining to my daughter that I liked the first new Star Trek movie, but not the second one, so they're probably just keeping up traditions and making every other one good.

I can't believe this is coming out in less than two months. It feels like we're supposed to be waiting until summer, but nope! We get this beauty real soon :D.
