Everything is showing growth, except the mint.
Dill has white shoots, and I expect to see green in a day or two. Nothing in the mint container.

Another update next monday!

be patient..next update is tomorrow, and 6 more pics :)

But, if you just can't wait to know what happened:

[spoiler:71ewe3rn]everything is now growing well.[/spoiler:71ewe3rn]

The Mint and Oregano are barely getting started, but everything's growing pretty good. The whole garden is 9 days old. I will start pruning and stuff in about 2 weeks. Those will be tiny harvests at first, but I'll try to make some dishes with the various spices and take some pics.

screw that aerogarden BS, i grew a 2.5 pound zucchini and a 1.8 pound zucchini from a potted plant

Day 17.

The tips of the dill leaves are turning brown, and the mint is a little yellowish. The customer service people tell me that this could be due to degraded nutrients (my nutrient tablets are "sweating" in the package) and so they're sending me out a new kit, for free, in case this one fails. Can't really fault them on customer service, that's for sure! I'm going to try to keep these going as long as I can though, as the basil and thyme look pretty good.

pruned a few leaves of basil off the top today..

Not much you can do with a few leaves of basil..and then it hit me. Caprese Salad!

Day 24. After about a week, the plants were looking wilted. So, rather than follow the instructions, I took some advice from HowDroll and started watering more often. That's what seeemed to bring them back from the brink. The book says refill water when you put in new tablets, but that just doesn't cut it.

In these pics the dill is standing up nice and tall..but if I go a full week without watering, it's actually lying on the ground, it's so thirsty.

I think there's a HUGE difference between last week and this week in how much growth I have in the garden.

very convenient :)

Today, in addition to my spice cabinet, I grabbed some thyme and dill from the spice garden and added it to dinner:

Spinach, bacon and portabello quiche with provolone, gruyere and asiago cheese

Just harvested some mint, basil, and dill. Put the basil aside to go with baked chicken tomorrow night.

Used the dill and mint to whip up a quick fattoush (vegetable salad) with tomato, cucumber, and radishes for a snack. No picture this time. I ate it too quickly :)

well, for me, it was free, so heck yeah.

But the thing's like $150.00 (depending on where you get it) so if I'm able to get a little over 30 meals out of this batch of herbs, I'll about break even (since when I buy 'fresh' herbs at the store for meals, i spend about $5.00 per meal).

I'm pretty sure that if I charted out the cost of the seed pods and stuff over time versus the cost of fresh herbs, I'll definitely have a break-even point sometime this year.

That said, the herbs are fantastic in flavor and aroma. Fresh picked is always going to be far better than even the 'fresh herbs' section at HEB Central Market. So, in that sense, I'm getting more for the money. I also get a great deal of satisfaction just in watching the herbs grow and fussing over them.

So, I would say it's worth the money. I've wasted $99 on things I've enjoyed less.

awww, poor ZM. If you lived closer, I'd have shared. I actually made two quiches, and ended up taking one to work and letting the co-workers tear it up ;)

Last time I made fattoush. This time, I had a more traditional American use for the mint: parfaits.

I made the whipped cream from scratch. Then I hit some blueberries with the immersion blender, and took the resulting chopped bits and folded them into the whipped cream. The blueberry whipped cream goes excellent with honeydew and black berries.

On top, fresh mint from the AeroGarden.

thread necro!

The herbal aerogarden gave up the ghost a month ago. It had lived a full life cycle, and it was time to cultivate everything, clean the garden, and start over.

I had lots of nice dishes with the herbs...i made baked tilapia and used a lot of the dill. I used the dill for skillet potatoes. Used dill and mint in fattoush, and used mint in mint juleps. The oregano and thyme never really took off much, but I did use them both in baked chicken and in homemade spaghetti sauce. Chives, I used as a garnish all over the place. Basil, I used in baked chicken (putting basil under the skin) as well as once making a basil chicken using about a cup of basil leaves in a yogurt sauce.

So, I managed to get full use out of the herbs. Now, I'm growin "salad greens". They've been growing about 3 weeks now...I'll get a pic up as soon as Callistarya gets back with my camera (as she's out of town). The salad greens are growing nicely, and I've already cultivated them a couple of times for little salads and to add greenery to sandwiches. It's pretty tasty stuff!

Thanks for sharing this!! I like fresh herbs but for the life of me can't grow any. I didn't know you could grow lettuce either. I've been warying about the Aerogarden b/c I didn't anything would come out tasting good. I might be getting myself this for Christmas.
