I am vengeance. I am the night. I...AM...BATMAN!

So...anyone else buy Batman: Arkham Asylum yet? I picked it up a bit earlier than the midnight launch, and have been playing it for the past couple hours.

Initial impressions: love the game, don't like the puzzles as they largely consist of "find the control panel, hit it with a batarang". You actually FEEL like Batman, whether you're taking on a group of goons at once or picking them off one by one--something they couldn't have gotten better, especially when they have guns and you're forced to be stealthy.

Also...the voice acting is superb. Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy did an amazing job on this (granted, Hamill steals the show since Batman is silent most of the time, while the Joker constantly cracks wise).

Aaaaand, on that note, I'mma go play some more. I'll finish up the review later.

That's out?

Wasn't paying much attention to it's development... Last I heard 360 owners got screwed on bonus content.

I played the demo last night. Loved most of it, but found that the camera could be a bit cramped sometimes. I'll pick it up, I just don't know when.

Well, the PS3 users get to play as the Joker in the challenge rooms; which is cool, but not necessarily what I'd call 'screwed'. (Now Fallout 3 on the PS3 on the other hand...)

Batman: Arkham Asylum is a GREAT game! There's nothing quite like swinging from gargoyle to gargoyle over the heads of the henchmen and then dropping silently down to pick them off one by one while the others crap in their pants.

10/10 stars!

Those Joker Challenge maps completely change the tone of the game. In hand-to-hand combat, the Joker is a bit slower but more entertaining to watch. He doesn't have Batman's grapple gun, so he can't hide out in the ceiling like he can and wait to make his move. Joker also doesn't have a detective mode or rather his Detective mode has to be selected as an item, so he's unable to use another item at the same time. He does, however, have his chattering teeth... these act like a remote controlled bomb that he can walk over to his targets and then explode on demand. He also has a revolver that will kill people in one shot, but takes forever to cycle shots and doesn't have much ammo. In the end, playing the Joker feels more like playing Solid Snake than it does like playing Batman.

The ending is also slightly different on the 360 and PS3.
In the PS3 version, Bane grabs a box of Titan as it's flowing down Gotham Bay in the stinger. In the 360 version, I'm told it's Scarecrow instead.

The character in the ending is random, it can be one of any four

So it can be Bane, Croc, Scarecrow, and who else... Poison Ivy?

AA is an awesome game - but I'm afraid the main storyline isn't as long as I would expect. I beat the game on normal difficulty in ~8 hours of playtime, & I was by no means hardcore powering through the game. Heck for an hour or two I was running around clearing out riddles.

So after about 10 hours of play I have completed the storyline, found all 241 riddles and unlocked all trophies & bios. I am 85% complete with only the challenges left. The challenges are cool, but so far from what I've seen its either A) fight 4 waves of thugs trying to maximize your combos & therefore your points. Or B) sneak around and take out a roomful of armed guards while attempting to do 3 different takedowns. I just don't have the timing down on the fights yet because I can't seem to get more than 15 w/o being on the back of a titan. I definitely haven't come close to the freeflow perfection achievement yet.

Also - one bad thing. The game is pretty beautiful. Its a shame that you need to spend a fair amount of time looking through the blue-ish detective mode in order to find things.

I got it from Gamefly - so I'll probably hold onto it for another week or so and then try and hit the return window so I can get Halo in the first few days.

So I thought this was interesting trivia. Apparently Dino Andrade (Skull the Troll in PVP animated) plays the Scarecrow. Wasn't aware of that til he mentioned it at last night's Soulgeek Mixer.

I'm patiently awaiting the PC release, but I may break down and buy the PS3 version for the Joker content instead.

Maybe Zsasz? He's the only featured villain who isn't shown being put back into arkham besides croc, bane, and scarecrow.

I screwed up, it's one of three.

I finished up the story mode and picked up all but 3 of the riddles in 2 days of playtime, but the challenge maps are giving me a whole bunch of additional playtime. All in all, I'm glad I bought it rather than renting it. I'm also glad I picked up the PS3 version instead of the PC version because the Joker challenges are fun as hell (and also HARD as hell).
