Just a little something I thought people with too much time on their hands might be interested in - I started/registered halforums.wikidot.com to be kind of a "reference" wikipedia pertaining specifically to the singular culture/community that's sprung up around this little project.

That way, whenever there's something to be wondered over or explained (especially by new people encountering it for the first time), there'll be handy place to look up the subject and its history.

Currently it has only a few stub-length articles put in just to set the framework up. It allows for anonymous editing, so anybody who feels like pitching in can do so without having to bother to register. And don't worry, it does track IPs of anonymous contributions so that if somebody goes turning a page about your forum name into an "I hate person x" vandalization, they can be dealt with (besides the usual "revert to previous version" fix inherent to all wikis).

GasBandit for the fucking WIN! Thanks, man! Now we need content volunteers to make sure stuff is kept up to date and correct.

Gas Bandit is always the win. That aside, it will require a fair amount of feeding to get it to be useful, so we ought to pimp it out on links in our signatures or something similar to try to drive more people there to contribute.

I noticed that there was an anonymous editor. I think we should have it so only those who sign up can do it.

please let me know if I fumble the editing style as well, I'm rather dim witted on technoprotocol.

Whatever. You were already signed up. This was for the first entry in the Frosty Susan thing. Yours was well done, ya big lunkhead.

I thought about that, but my experience with the Video Game Babes wiki I also run is that requiring registration HEAVILY retards participation. The project might never get off the ground if people have to register/login AGAIN separately from the board.

There have been a few anonymous editors (the first of which was clearly Shannow creating his own page about himself, as is proper), and so far nobody's done anything untoward. At this point I think our best option is to continue to let anonymous contributions, until somebody ruins it for everybody, at which point it's a simple flip of the switch for me to change it to where only registered users can edit/create.

You know more about this than I. Sounds good. Thanks again, Gas.

Just a heads up Gas. I was the one who began "Free Cat" whenever Superking would post. It was in direct reaction to his viewing of my Reno911 kitty thrown from the roof into the woodchipper GIF. Ever since then, whenever he'd post in a thread, I'd simply shut him out with Free Cat.

Reverts and locking should be easy, so better to keep it open until there's enough content and then require registration for upkeeping...

EDIT: The Babes wiki doesn't have the Valkyrie in the Starcraft entry? For Shame....

People, if you think something needs to say something (like Shego started Free Cat) or a page is missing (removal of pants), then edit/create it! It's a wiki, anybody can edit it. The edit link is at the very top of every page, on the right. The "create new page" field is at the bottom of the left hand menu. You don't need to sign up for an account or anything... just edit away. Don't worry if you screw up bad, somebody will come along behind you and fix it.

But I elevated it to an art form. :humph:

I'm sure all my Free Cat variants are still somewhere on my photobucket account, in case the wiki would benefit from their inclusion.

If you think it would, put them there. This is what it means to be a wiki. Whoever has something to add can add it.

Heh. I would join in on that. Fun stuff.

Congratulations are in order to Rob King, first halforums user to edit the main page (and rename it) to be about him. Try "Create New Page" Rob.

edit - nevermind, I copied it over. Though I didn't catch the picture.

What, this forum isn't entirely about me? Then why am I still here?

Seriously, though, sorry about that!

What no page for "Hylian" I am insulted :humph:
As a general rule, I'm leaving it to others to create their own page about themselves... or for someone more of a busybody than me to do so. Otherwise I'd be here all day, and on top of that, everybody's entry would be "This is some schmendrick who can't be bothered to make a page about himself, and I wish he'd step on a rusty nail."

And then the people I forgot to wish ill upon would get bent out of shape I forgot them... and so on.

So do it your own damn self.

So far, I think everybody outside of the JLCP has created their own page, though there has been edits from others.

I wouldn't post peoples picture on their articles unless they specifically say you can.

:madatyou: You don't think I don't know that? I just took your joke as an opportunity to explain why I usually* don't start pages for other users.

* - I know, I started the "Dave" page.

I've added mine, Shego's and Calleja. I have no problems adding user pages, I expect they'll change them to better fit them anyway.
