I always thought Turing was a computer :rimshot:

seriously though I guess this is a good thing, a little late though.

It says he's not all that well-known in the UK. Wonder if we have enough of a glut of computer nerds in the US that he's actually better known here.

Also, good for Brown for grabbing his balls and making a stand on something controversial.

Way overdue.

And kudos to Gordon Brown, though as someone on Fark pointed out this is a pretty safe decision for him, politically.

That is kinda suprising. My computer science teacher was fanatical about Turing and tought a lesson about some of the history and impact of his work.

I finished my Automata class last semester. about half of it was Turing machines.

Thing I loved about that class was I learned about Ada Lovelace. That woman now sits high on my list of favorite people in history.

Nice gesture. Though I fear Shego and Crone are going to come to this thread and learn (more?) about chemical castration. :bush:

It is a shame what happened to him and other gays during those times.

But at least I know that not only America was once that stupid.

He is of course very well known among any nerds over here, just the general populace who don't necessarily notice him, which I suspect you'll find is the case in the states too.

But yeah, about bloody time. Now all we need is an official pardon for him, and all others who were treated so horrifically.

Man. I'm surprised there are people who haven't heard of him. I heard about him in most history classes and all computer related classes (which there weren't as many of as there are now).
