What I'm getting at is that it's senseless to say "oh, your opinions have no merit, you haven't seen x movie!" Since you could find a truly great "x movie" for almost anyone that they've never seen. You could dismiss someone if they haven't seen any really great movies, or hate all movies in black and white or refuse to watch any older movies period or something inane like that.

It's not that you haven't seen movie X, Y, or Z. It's that you you get all film snobby, "your favorite movie sucks" mode every damn time the discussion comes up and you have never seen what is almost universally considered the best movie ever made. You can't really be much of a film snob if you haven't seen the pinnacle of the medium.

I don't care if you think my film knowledge is lacking. I haven't studied film in any way, or done anything but read a lot of essays/reviews and such. I just watch a bunch of movies

I'm with the Michael Keaton was the best Batman camp. He's the only one so far that has been able to balance the bruce wayne/batman with any great success. Christian Bale is an AWSOME Bruce Wayne, but, really, he's a pretty shitty Batman. It still boggles me that he thinks that being Batman means YELLING UNINTELLIGIBLY IN A REALLY GRAVELLY VOICE.
Keaton made the transition well, and I loved his absentminded/distracted take on Bruce and he didn't go over the top when he slipped into Batman mode.
Even though Batman Begins captured the post Frank Miller feel of the comics more than any movie before it, Batman Returns is still my favorite Batman movie. It had Christopher Walkin, which is always a plus, and Danny Devito and Michelle Pfeiffer were just great as Catwoman and the Penguin.

Honestly, I liked Batman Forever to a degree. It's not anywhere near being a great film, but I enjoyed parts of it. None of which had anything to do with any of the "good guys" Kilmer, Kidman, and O'Donnel all sucked terribly in that movie. I think that Jim Carrey was really the only thing I can say I really liked in that movie.
The only complaint I have about the Tim Burton Batman movies was a complaint I had about many movies from around that time period. They were just too dark. I don't mean in their tone, I mean "for the love of god, turn on a damn light so I can see what the hell is going on."

Bowie, you talked about Bale's gravelly, forced batman voice... and I agree, it's weird. When the second movie came out, I was hoping he'd drop it. The voice didn't bother me much in the first movie, because I thought that was all part of his learning process. I thought maybe he was using it because he was trying so hard to be something frightening, and later, when he was more experienced, he would drop it for something different. But I guess not.

I don't know, I'd still trust Charlie's judgment in movies over 92% of the rest of the forum's. I think he's shown, to a fair extent, a good taste in film and a pretty decent understanding of how films are made.
Just like any reviewer, though, I wouldn't give him 100% credibility.
I think most of you are just trying to have your snively moment in the sun hoping on one of his poor choices. Which, I guess, is your right to do. But just because a dude hasn't seen Citizen Kane isn't enough of a reason, I don't think...

Knowing every Kubrik film is a norm for film critics, although the 1000 movies claim is pretty small (I have half of that just on DVD), to not have watched Kubrik´s last is pretty much worse.

Works better, and is less idiotic than "Ive watched a 1000 movies", although unlike someone else, I dont claim to have a better taste at movies or to be a real "critic", just to enjoy stuff that most probably never will.
Except for Batman Begins, which should be burnt in hell along with everyone who liked it.
I have really seen a embarrassingly paltry number of foreign movies too 
Charlie just likes to fuck with peoples' heads into thinking he watches a lot of movies, when he's really counting WWE pay-per-view shows.
