Treasure Planet or classic Disney Movies

Recently I've been delving into nostalgia on collecting classic Disneys movies on DVD. The most recent ones have been Treasure Planet and Aladdin even though I had to get a used Aladdin on dvd that was in pretty good shape.

Was an interesting remake or interpretation on Disney's part on a veritable classic. Not as great as some of the other disneys movies but still enjoyable.

the next disney movies I want to get are: Tarzan, Lion King, Peter Pan, Mulan, Pocohontos, and Sleeping Beauty.

From Dreamworks I have: Prince of Egypt, El Dorado, and Sinbad.

With Disney: Aladdin, Hercules, Atlantis, Wall E, and the Incredibles.

Just going back as a kid and having fond movies of these films

Aladdin, Emperor's New Groove and Treasure Planet are the last good Disney movies, imo. Though I think there was one or two between Aladdin and those two.

Treasure Planet was such a great film. It's a shame that it did so poorly in theaters. There are so many people that will turn down an animated film just because... well... it's animated.
"Home on the Range" however was a horrible film that I've never even seen all the way through because I walked out after the first 30 minutes. Disney destroyed it's winning streak with that film and ended their 2D legacy on rubbish.
I have high hopes for "Princess and the Frog". I hope it revives 2D animation.

Well I liked Home on the Range. The buffalo is one of my favorite characters mostly because he is so understated. The music in that movie generally sucks though.

I have
Aladdin
Alice in Wonderland
Aristocats
Beauty and the Beast
Brother Bear
Cars
Emperor's New Groove
Finding Nemo
Home on the Range
Incredibles
Lion King
Lion King 1 1/2
Lion King 2: Simba's Pride
Little Mermaid
Meet the Robinsons
Monster's Inc
Mulan
Pocahontas
Robin Hood
Toy Story

Then I have- the shrek movies, robots, jimmy neutron, my neighbor totoro, all dogs go to heaven, Hoodwinked, Madagascar, and Ferngully that are nonDisney.

I avoided Treasure Planet because the basic concept sounded terrible.

Transplanting a classic tale into a context which in my opinion made no sense held no attraction for me and sounded downright unpleasant to watch.

I thought it was cute. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Buuut I wouldn't call it a "classic" or as memorable as something like Alladin, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King...

I'm not saying it wasn't good. I just think it was in a different class. Good voice acting, though. :) And I enjoy a story that's been placed into a totally different time period. I think it's interesting. If that really annoys you, then yes, you live a long, fulfilling life without ever watching it.

Wow! None of you have "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"? I'm kinda surprised. It's one of my favorite Disney movies even if they "Disneyfied" the classical ending to be a happy one. The music is so dark and the one song from Frollo is so damned dark I'm surprised it was allowed in a Disney film.

It's never quite stated whether or not the gargoyles are real or just in his imagination, much like Tom Hanks character did with Wilson in Castaway.

Hunchback was one of Disney's better films. I've wondered if some parents shunned it because it waxes a bit more adultish than the other Disneys. I mean, the song above is about sexual attraction.

I had one problem with that movie-- the computer animated background people. They looked SO stiff and fake.

Ane Dave, what about when Hugo messes with Djali the goat?

There's got to be SOME anthropomorphic shenanigans - it's a Disney flick. And yes, I thought it detracted.

Even the first song sets the tone for a darker, more grown up movie!

(Sorry no animation, but this is the song.)

I didn't care for Hunchback. I am not sure why I just wasn't interested in it. Although I will say the color palette they used in that movie was beautiful.

My top three favorite Disney are Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Mulan. Aladdin is a close fourth.

Mulan is so good that even the straight to video sequel isn't too bad. It has one of the most moving scenes I have ever seen in an animated movie.

It comes highly recommended. Sure it's a retelling of a classic, but it's done in a way that justifies a retelling. I also have to say that Silver in this version is by far one of my favorite Disney "Villains".

Don't the gargoyles help Quasi defend the Cathedral or something?

See my previous about the anthropomorphism rampant in Disney films. But I reiterate again that the gargoyles and other happy happy creatures are not the main focus of the film. In Wall-E the robots falling in love is the main point! I can handle sideline silliness.

Children naturally anthropomorphize things in their lives. that is probably why it is so common in animated movies.

Favorite Disney movie: Lion King

Most underrated: Hunchback of Notre Dame

Worst: Pocahontas (I found that movie almost painful to watch)

What? You mean the white American Indian? Bad, bad, bad movie.

But for stereotypes, go back and watch "The Aristocats" or "Songs of the South". Hoo boy!

Aw Pocahontas haters.

I like that movie. Great villain. And if anything Pocahontas herself is a nondescript completely generic representative of Native culture. She is a victim of turn of the last century Pan-Indianism which I am not going to rant about here But she is so innocuous that to hate the movie because of that would be ignoring all the things in the movie that have actual depth. I think the support characters more than make up for Pocahontas's shallow character depth.

It wasn't even that at all. It was just a very bad movie. It was boring, the animation wasn't quite where I expect Disney movies to be, and I really never gave a rat's bunghole about the characters.

Pocahontas felt like they were trying to work out the animated Broadway musical schtick that actually worked later in Hunchback. The story became more stage-like, as did the musical style, but the songs were just boring, and the plot felt like wannabe-Shakespeare, so utterly predictable.

Hunchback actually made this work.

I thought Treasure Planet was okay (and had some very good bits; I loved the depiction of the black hole), but I gotta second the love for the Emperor's New Groove; they just grabbed a new art style and decided to be silly, and it was hilarious.

Who knew David Spade remembered how to be funny?

I guess it must just be a matter of taste. I loved Pocahontas and couldn't make it all the way through Hunchback, it just wasn't interesting.

Are we only counting animated movies are we counting any classic Disney movies? If it is just any classic Disney movie than I will have to say The Muppet Christmas Carol.

I wanted so much to like Mulan, I really did, but... it felt disappointing to me. The songs felt sort of tacked-on to me (though they're some really good songs, Reflection and I'll Make a Man Out of You are my favorites), and I don't think they got enough use out of Lea Salonga. The animation didn't impress me much, either. Oh, and Mushu annoyed me, even more than Jar Jar did.

Aladdin, the Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and the Little Mermaid are probably my favorite 2-D animated Disney movies.

"The safety's on Old Betsy."

Robin Hood is one of my favorite Disney movies.

Somehow I never consider Treasure Planet as a Disney flick, but I abolutely love this movie!

I also love the darkness of Hunchback.
Never got into Alladin.
Mulan is great, and of course so is Beauty and the Beast.

When I'm in the right mood there also is Fantasia (the first) and Snow White.

And big hug for Hylian, The Muppet Christmas Carol is teh win!

I own very few Disney films, but I can tell you right off the top of my head were put into my collection the moment I could get my hands on them.

Mulan (This is probably my most watched animated film I have on DVD, I can pop it in ANY time and I WILL watch it through it's entirety every time)

Incredibles (A superhero movie about superheroes, who can't superhero, that can't accept day to day life and want to get back to superheroing? Yes please!)

Hunchback (Easily one of Disney's darkest films and one of my favorite Disney villains without a doubt. Blind faith over humanity? Yes please!)

Lion King (scar, Scar, SCAR!)
