You know, you can only ride so much on "subjective taste". There is such thing as talent within the aesthetics of the craft. I fucking hate Jack Keroac, but I appreciate what his contributions were to literature. The dude might be a mysoginistic, drunk beatnik who wrote a pompous, long-winded novel about the American roadways...and then a few other novels jerking himself and his ideologies off.
But you can't deny the dude is one of the most important American writers. There is a difference. Blowing off the talent by saying you don't personally like fails to strike a considerable argument.

To elaborate my Keroak claim...regardless of what you think of the person or his writing style, On The Road is a definitive piece of a certain movement of literature, and quite reflective of many cultural aspects going on at the time. I hate that culture, but it's important to note. And, even though I think his writing is pompous and long-winded, it ushered in an era of writing which eventually came to heads with other artforms going at the time.
So, again. I hate the dude. But he has very real contributions to the craft. The same can be, and constantly is, said about Micheal Jackson and pop music.
