iTunes Alternatives?

So, I've recently become fed-up with iTunes. I've dealt with it's slow, sometimes clunky interface since getting my 2nd generation Nano for a couple of years now because buying music from it was pretty damn convenient. However, I've been fighting off and on with iTunes about trying to move my music library to my external drive and am finally ready to call it quits.

I have come to you, Halforums, to ask if there are any alternative programs I can use to organize my music library? Will my 2nd generation Nano (8 GB) be compatible with a non-Apple program? Since I won't be using iTunes to buy music anymore, where else do you recommend to buy MP3s from?

I've bought songs from Amazon, and it went smoothly. If you want to D/L an entire album at once you have to install their software, but if you go one song at a time, you just D/L them individually. It takes less than a minute to get 10 or so songs that way.

Yeah, I've thought about Amazon and Rhapsody and I think between the two I should be able to find anything I need. I still need another program with which to organize my library and get songs on and off of my iPod though.

i use foobar2k myself. songbird is also supposed to be pretty good. winamp got a bit too bloated for me.

edit* foobar also has an ipod plugin that should allow it to work with your nano

I assume by your comments about it being slow and clunky, you're using Windows. Man, the Windows version sucks in comparison. Anyway, I would second the suggestion of Winamp. It's worked great for me. I tried foobar2000 for a while, and... it's supposed to start up faster than Winamp, isn't it? Well, when I had XP on my Eee PC for a while, Winamp always worked better for me than fb2k. Also, Winamp has better device support, so I'd suggest go with that.

Personally, I hate BOTH iTunes and Winamp :( I keep using iTunes because it has my meticulously organized library...meticulously organized. I can't even begin thinking about starting all that editing all over again :( :( :(

Well it seems like Winamp's gotten some good recommendations. I'll check that out first and see if it does what I want it to do.
