But I thought he had talked about how they could be potentially done well (a la Arkham Asylum), unless I'm confusing a different rant with one of his. Anyways he makes the point at the beginning that he doesn't feel like the right person to review the game, which is probably true.

Well obviously his standards for being done well are higher then average... as in "sure it's possible, just like pigs might evolve wings..." :p

They need to fix their movie player. I know that they need ad revenue to keep running, but if your movie player won't run even when I turn off my ad-blocker, your system if flawed.

Thanks for taking over the punning, Fig. I've just been so freaking busy that I've forgotten all about this.

Totally agreed, Mind. To be honest, I find he's pretty accurate about most games he criticizes. People seem to think that he just rips into games, but that's not entirely true. He's not REVIEWING games, he's CRITIQUING them, which means he's critical of them. He points out their flaws, rather than just gushing about them. And really, the things he points out tend to not just be about that particular game, but common things that appear in many games (stupidly long cutscenes, quicktime events, etc). Whenever I've rented a game and played it some, I'll go back and watch his video of said game and find it difficult to argue with him. At the same time, he DOES mention things that he liked about it, but being that he's critiquing them, not reviewing them, he focuses more on what to be critical about it.

For me, I've actually been enjoying his EXTRA Puncuation articles moreso than ZP. I like his points about the gaming industry and how it could change if they'd just stop and think. He uses his expansion that week's video to point out flaws not in the game, but in how typical those flaws show up in other games. Some recent examples:

Revenge

Videogames as Art

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Stealth

Character Names

Male Protagonists

Monster Hunter Tri

The Common Mistakes of Horror Games

Red Dead Redemption

I thought he was pretty soft on Alpha Protocol all things considered. I mean he spent more time talking about how PMCs shouldn't be the gamer's whipping boys anymore than he did talking about how combat was a frustrating dance of waiting for your stupidly broken special abilities to recharge.

And I personally really did like the fact that people will often talk about missions you had previously completed.

I've played all the way through Red Dead and 1/3 of the way through Alan Wake. He's right about everything on both of those.
I don't get it, I've finished Red Dead, they physics engine does a great job, it has only the most minor of issues (which is more than I can say for many other games), the story is compelling and keeps pushing you forward with enough leeway to do all the fun side quests, I never once felt like it was just a roam and do boring stuff game (I know those weren't his words, but he said something to that effect). It's one of the most compelling, well done games I've played in years.

He is right it's to easy. I kept waiting for it to get harder and it never did. Is there even a harder setting on it?

It was a bit on the easy side and I do think the story was pretty good, though it felt like there were two endings. Yahtzee indicated the story was good too. He just knows his schtick. He has to sound angry and critical. The physics engine was a good choice to pick on, I felt, because that is what I have had the most problems with. More than once I rode my horse into a mountain where I was doomed to stay until I restarted. I've also seen the wagons start jittering to the point that the NPCs driving them jumped out and ran away in terror (!!!) and all the critters and NPCs freeze up and skate around on the environment when I get stuck, only able to aim and look around me. I don't expect it to be perfect, of course, but these were non-trivial physics issues that all occurred more than once. I think Rockstar deserves a little heat for that. All that said, I'm excited for the multiplayer DLC coming up. Multiplayer right now is severely lacking. It could be extremely fun but they don't have much variety of content right now.

Huh... I saw a few issues but they were REALLY rare. Never saw the skating thing. The DLC sounds really fun.
