Bear in mind, Johns is being named CCO of DC Entertainment, not JUST DC Comics...this means a more active role in tv/film properties as well...

So today DC did some reshuffling and named Dan DiDio and Jim Lee as co-publishers of DC Comics. Who is taking DiDio's place? Geoff Johns.

Lets have that sink in. The greatest writer at DC is now in charge of setting the tone and directions of the DC Universe.
Might mean he won't be writing as much now, though.

This might actually be really bad.

I can't really think of a single good comic writer/artist who remained a good comic writer/artist after they began working the admin/editor side as well, and not all of them especially good administrators either. This has been true of Didio, Paul Levitz, Joe Quesada, Marv Wolfman, Jim Lee, and Stan Lee, and the entire original Image group, just to name some.

I wish Geoff luck, because god knows someone needed to take over and breath some new life in, but the Big Two have a tendency to eat the brains of the creative talent who they convert into managers.

So, he's essentially taking Dildio's position, then? I'm cautiously optimistic.

Optimistic, because hands down, Johns has written some of the best in-continuity DC stories in the last decade or so. His runs on Flash, JSA, Green Lantern and Superman have all been fantastic.

On the other hand, I don't like his perchance for gory kills, most especially the ones involving Black Adam. BUT, he has a great sense of creative direction, build up and sowing seeds for future stories. And he has a great way of tying in all sorts of past events and continuity without things getting bogged down. Best example of that was in how he helped bring Hawkman back, essentially saying that ALL of the previous Hawkmen were all him, just past lives.

So, yeah. Cautiously optimistic.

I think it's safe to say I no longer will be reading Marvel titles anymore. DCU forever

I really can't think of anyone better to give broad vision and direction for the country, er, comic book company. Maybe he should run for president... hmm....

Definite boon for anyone worried about the nation's zombie defence plans.

Awesome news. No wonder DC is doing better off than sappy Marvel.
Well still looking forward to Iron Man 2 that is.
