The not-so-serious but I want to rant thread.

Well, you guys started it. :)

Na, I am not us vs. them, like I said, I am both. There is a guy wearing a shirt that says his heroes kill cowboys. My Dad was a cowboy. I am the first generation of non-cowboys in my family.
You really should let this go before someone brings up history and how colonialism fucked over every native American tribe, not just the ones who fought back.

Really? Some one here has studied colonial history more than myself? I know it well, just reread all of my posts on this subject.

I am just angry at a random douche wearing a shirt that revels in the killing of his own kind, and my own kind.

*raises hand*

Cultural history, English language and culture, postcolonial studies... Plus a healthy dose of self-motivated interest in the colonial process.

There are some serious downsides to my job. Like today I got chased across the road by two pissed of barn swallows. I get it you are protecting your young but seriously back off. I don't want to harm them. And then I got made fun of by... well everyone around me when I reacted in my usual freaked out way to having a spider on me.

How the hell did I end up with this job? I hate people and I hate nature. It makes no sense.

I kind of like it though. The people I work with are hysterical and I like having time to read. If only there were no customers... or bugs.

Rrrrr... my cousin's ex husband is such a loser. Teaching is poor son to be a misogynistic bully, flaunting his vacations while his wife and sons are struggling financially, and all in all being an enormous waste of space and resources. The poor oldest kid in all this is so starving for a male role model that he eats up ALL the garbage this guys spouts... even though his uncles try and fill the gap. Poor kid has so many anger issues, and his mom tries so hard.

I want to punch that man in the face... I'm sorry, I just misused that word. He's a fucking boy. A cowardly little pencil-dick motherfucker who won't man up and be a father. He's not worth the effort it took me to punch this out. He's not worth the leftover trail mix in vegan shit (that's no jab against vegans... but anyone here could figure that out... I just always have to over-clarify). He's not worth a fucking damn. Asshole. I hate hate hate him and right now I wish that a burning building would fall on top of him (he's a firefighter... the only ONLY redeeming thing about him. He's willing to risk his life for people... he just can't take a moment and be a man for his sons.)

2 God damn foot chases today. I think I sprinted 2 fucking miles across this town. I HATE THIS FUCKING TOWN.
I swear to God, every time you and Officer Charon post about police stuff I want to reply with a post like the angry lieutenant from Last Action Hero.

This is a brake safety switch in my wife's 2008 dodge avenger. It's a little actuator that makes sure that the car doesn't shift out of park unless the brake is depressed.
Notice how it's hot pink plastic? See that little part that I have circled? That's where the spring goes to make this switch work. It's broken, and the spring has sprung into the nether regions of the center console. To shift the car out of park, I have to now manually push that damn thing with my finger.

Why the fuck would you make a part like this out of plastic, where it will inevitably break due to stress fatigue because of the constant tension of the spring?

Fucking idiots.

Crapcrapcrapcrap.

Okay, so, I have one more paper to finish, right? The plan was to get all of them finished before I leave on Thursday for Paris with my sister and my dad, the latter of whom has returned from Australia for this year. Of course that means I get struck with writer's block now. I know what I want, I have what I need, but I can not put it on paper. Ugh. On top of that, I have one final tomorrow night, for the same course. I think I'll make it, but only barely. Maybe I'll need a resit.

:Leyla: is the only appropriate reaction.

Damn Ceej... Sounds like a real failure of a man.

Depends on your definition of failure. He sounds pretty kick ass to me.

I bolded the answer to your question. Check autozone or Pepboys. Maybe they have an actual metal version of that clip or try to snag one off a higher end model than the Avenger from a junk yard (maybe even an older model?).

Ceej, I think the man deserves a chocolate cake. Laced with laxative. And razor blades. Maybe a live grenade.

Why? Because he's a bad father? That doesn't mean he's a evil person at all. This is why I think you're a douchebag.

It's possible that the plastic was more durable than similar metal parts they'd tried. I don't know the engineering history. Anything that needs to endure a pressing force over an area might be better engineered in plastic.

Fixed that for ya.

Is it? I don't know anything about the price of plastic vs. metal fabrication. I do know one thing: If you gave me the choice of wearing a vest of plastic fiber or a vest of metal of the same weight and dimension while having bullets fired at me, I'd take the plastic.

Word but in the world of auto manufacture, cost always takes priority over quality.

An extruded plastic part like that could be made for under 75 cents in North America, making it out of cast metal would put you at about 50 cents, having it machined from steel about $4.

In China it's 5 cents and they give you a baby for free though, is this made in USA?

I think I've figured out why they made the part out of plastic.

It's not sold separately. Dodge will only sell and install a complete shifter unit, at $240 (labor incl.).

Looks like dodge building in guaranteed future maintenance fees, to me.

For clarification, the piece you can't see because it's broken off is just a little plastic tab/hook that a spring hooks onto. It's not even a powerful spring. I can't imagine that plastic would wear any better than even cheap metal under these conditions.

Oh, come off it, Chaz. Haven't you ever had a friend who "fed" you when you were mad, just to help you through it--knowing full well there was nothing you could REALLY do? I'm ranting about someone I don't like; of course they don't know the whole situation. Of course they don't know the guy as well as I do (and his inability to be a father isn't the only thing wrong with him, either...). People just do that for each other sometime--say something supportive even though we know we're not actually going to harm the guy.

Almost every time there's a "bad news" thread where someone does something unspeakable, people do the same thing. "Man if that were me, I'd..." It's just talk. You do it, too. It doesn't make NR a douchebag, and it wouldn't make you either. It's just talk, and people helping me through a great deal of frustration. Plain and simple.

I just find patronizing remarks like that annoying. They rank right up there with retarded *internet hugs* etc...

Thanks for speaking your mind, Chaz, old buddy.

No, but really, I understand where you're coming from, and at a time the same thing might have annoyed me too. I just don't can't really get worked up over it anymore.
