The city car of the future will seat two people, run on electric power and communicate with other vehicles to reach a destination faster while automatically avoiding traffic tie-ups and crashes.

General Motors, working with electric-scooter maker Segway, has developed three concepts tailored toward that vision of future transportation. The Electric Networked Vehicle, or EN-V, concepts go on display May 1 at the World Expo in Shanghai.
Yes, it basically looks like a car version of a Segway.

some thing like that would be cool for an alternative to a taxi. have a cab stand with 4 or more of those waiting, hop in one, swipe your credit card, and tell it where to go.

That would be awesome, but first you have to remove all the other car OFF the road first.

It has a top speed of 25 mph? Seriously? I couldn't ride the stupid thing on our Main Street without getting run over.

That's kind of the point, if they replace cars all together there wont' be crashes due to the communications between the technology.

When those things are on the streets, that's when you know it's over, man. We're doomed to some horrible sci-fi disaster.

At least in America, most auto miles are racked up with one person in the vehicle.
That doesn't mean I don't want the ability to truck around 7 other people. You know, just in case.

I think this was meant to be more of a step up from a bike, but not a full car. I'm guessing it would be fairly affordable, and would work great for getting to work and back. It's not meant to replace your minivan.

Most families don't need two honkin' huge SUV's to get around. A commuter car and a mammahauler should be fine for most families.

I think there will be a push to get people out of the suburbs and back to the city center where slow, tiny cars should be fine.

Actually, the people who have been moving further out to avoid the crime and blight of urban centers are moving out of the suburbs because it's turning into the same kind of environment. The new trend is exurbs.

With Houston, a lot of the folks in the Suburbs are moving back into town. My brother did that. It worked great, he was a 15 minute round trip to drop his wife off at work, son at school and back home to his studio for his job. Then he took a job in a suburb, and he is driving out in 20 minutes when it takes those driving in an hour.

At that rate, it'll average about 15 mph. Why not just ride a scooter or a bicycle?
