So a while ago, someone here linked to Robot Unicorn Attack, a game that I initial scoffed at as a Canabalt clone, but suddenly became one of my favorite games ever. I love the music, love the graphics, love the happy robot dolphins that show up every 5000 points to let me know how awesome I am, love and the ludicrously happy feeling I get whenever I play it.
Except now I've played it for some god awful number of hours, and it is starting to get a bit boring. So I am trying to scour the interwebs for a game that, ideally, will possess the following qualities:
1. Has an upbeat, happy soundtrack.
2. Has fairly simple gameplay. Doesn't have to be the exact same thing as RUA, but something I can get into the zone playing after a long day at work when I don't feel like spending mental energy figuring out how to play Dwarf Fortress or whatever.
3. Movement feels smooth and... I dunno, flowy. Robot Unicorn Attack does a good job of blending the feel of your motion with the rhythm of the music.
4. A game that can run on a Mac (either Flash based or just in general mac compatible). I have a windows partition but it's a pain to have to re-start the computer.
5. The one flaw in RUA is that there's no real progression. I'd kinda like something that combines the happy stupid feeling of Robot Unicorn Attack with, at the very least, gradual transitions in environment, so I feel like I'm going some place. A primitive RPG system.
6. Uses the keyboard, not the mouse. (Or if it does use the mouse, it has to just be either "one button game" style of play, or just use it for aiming). For some reason playing with a keyboard makes gaming more visceral for me, like I'm directly controlling myself rather than remotely giving instructions to someone else.
Basically I'm looking for a flash game version of heroin. Something combining happy blissful gameplay, flowy visceral movement, and the addicting power of either leveling up or discovering new areas.
