I've been wanting to try this show for ages, but my store has all the discs...except the first. Until now!

And holy crap, do I ever regret not seeing this sooner! It's totally wicked!! The animation, the mythology, etc. It's all fantastic.

I'll see if I can get through the whole series before the movie comes out, because now I'm stoked to see it.

I don't think getting excited for the movie will be the appropriate response to seeing the show.
This. After seeing the quality of the show, it's basically guaranteed that the movie is ether going to be okay but not great, or an abomination. It's never going to match up to the series.

It's not going to match up to the series but that doesn't mean one can't be excited for it.

Unless you're one of those anti-whitewashing crusaders, I suppose.

It just doesn't look very good. A little too emo from the advertisements. We're still seeing it because I'm going to give it an honest chance, but I've seen nothing worth getting excited over.

I'd feel a bit more comfortable about the movie if Aang didn't seem so angsty. He's not supposed to be angsty... at all.

Disagree. I'd say he has his angsty moments. Sure, he's a chipper guy most of the time, but when he actually thinks about the fact that he is in the war, that he has to fight, and that everybody he has ever known before he thawed out, no, his entire people got wiped off the face of the earth, he gets pretty angsty.

That, and the trailers showed only mostly fighting scenes. I don't think Shyamalan completely angstified Aang, but we'll see, I suppose.

I'm cautiously optimistic for the movie. I realize that it won't be exactly like the show, and anyone expecting that should save their money. From the looks of the trailer I'm guessing they're going to cram all of season 1 into a 2 hour movie. Obviously that one part of that one episode that you really love is not going to make the cut, and certain things will have to be changed to make room for the actual meat of the story.

Really it's going to be like a book adaption. Segments will be removed, characters will be merged, and a stronger emphasis will be placed on the exciting parts. If you don't want to be disappointed than just accept it as it's own piece of work instead of that thing that's a lot like that other thing you like.

Honestly if you haven't seen the series yet, I'd hold off and watch the movie first. That usually allows me to accept the movie as one thing and the book as it's own easier.

Aang was angsty for the second half of season 2 and for a pretty large part of season 3.He didn't always SHOW it, but in the episodes that he did you could really see that it weighed on him.

True, but through out season one he only seemed geniunely Angsty twice: When he finds out the rest of the Airbenders are gone (not gonna spoiler it cause he's called THE LAST AIRBENDER) and when he talks about the night he was frozen. It doesn't happen all that often in season one and that's what the movie covers, hence my concern. He's supposed to get more angsty as he matures, not when he's fresh out of the ice.

I love Avatar. I hate that I can never convince my friends to watch it, because it came on Nickelodeon.

I need new friends.

I finally sat down and watched the first season on Netflix instant watch but to my dismay I realized they don;t have instant watch setup for season 2 or 3 :(

Anyone know where I can either watch the 2nd and 3rd season or at least know where I can but the season DVD's cheap? So far the cheapest i have seen was about $40 per season and I may do it for that but I would much prefer finding it a little cheaper.

My daughter, 8 at the time, discovered the series so I had to watch it to ascertain if it was suitable viewing for her. Was the best time I have had to date reviewing a program she's wanted to start watching and I immediately told her she could TIVO all the episodes to catch the whole story. Great series with quality animation and excellent story-telling. My opinion is out on the movie but I am worried what the M. Night patented "Twist" might be.

The twist is gonna be a huge letdown on the awesome ending to season 1.

No merging of the Avatar with the Ocean Spirit, which was a sequence on par with what I'd expect in a Miyazaki movie, and instead it'll just be a lame tidal wave.

Sadly, most likely this. They'll probably leave at Koh, the Face Stealer too... which is sad, because they REALLY should have used him more.

A couple of days ago I did a marathon of Avatar and plowed through season 2 and 3 and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the show and will definitely be buying the DVD sets when I save up enough money.

Hmmm... I wonder if my local DVD store has any?
I know you can find just about every episode online, if you look for it. It's how most of us in the US saw the last episodes, when they started airing the final ones in Canada and overseas WEEKS ahead of the US due to Nickelodeon dropping the ball.

Well, there's a couple of problems:
1.) DVD companies in Finland are notoriously stupid. We didn't even get Firefly on DVDs.
2.) I checked online at the main DVD suppliers. Only the James Cameron Avatar is available.
3.) Online episodes are a bitch to find at times.
