In the future, what kinds of contests would you like to see me put on? And remembering that I have to pay for these, what would you think would be some cool prizes?

Some examples of prizes I've given away:

  • Comic series
  • Games
  • Gift cards
  • Swag from the store I have to update or move
I've got some bigger prizes on the horizon like the Wii and maybe some more surprises, but these will be special circumstances.

I'm just running out of ideas. I'll be posting the June contest information today as I won't have time (I fear) this weekend and next Tuesday will be nuts here at work. And I still don't know what the prize will be. Ame has a free copy of HL2 to give out but I don't know how many people don't already own that so it will need to be a special addition to whatever the prize is.

My post got eaten!

I'd like to see contests that don't rely specifically on sports knowledge or writing ability. All we've had for the last several months are sports pools, haiku contests, and twitter contests. I'm not a sports fan nor a writer, really, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

BRANCH OUT A BIT JEEZ

To what?

And to expound on that...I have no control as to when the sports ones can be as we are beholden to their schedules.

Also true.

I dunno man, art contests? Video? Music? Photoshop? Comic? ...Math?!

I'm just spitballin' here.

Art: Been done. Hardly any entries.
Video: Done it. NO entries.
Music: Hmm. Maybe a video of you singing a song? But how many do you think will join?
Photoshop: Look at the contest calendar again, young one.
Comic: That has potential.
Math: That one would be a tricky one. I'd have to make it so hard that only a few would get it. And how would that last more than a day?

See my dilemma? I use what works because finding new stuff that works is fucking HARD!!

Yeah I get it, I just don't wanna see us get stuck in a rut.

Oh shit!

I forgot all about that! I hadn't been doing tournaments in the arcade because I found out you can cheat games with a third party program. But a month-long poker tourney? Brilliant!

It was one to make an intentionally bad video. i don't remember the topic. Nobody did anything.

HALFORUMS THEMED CREATIVE COOKING CONTEST :O

Wherein contestants transform a forumite, meme, thread, or concept into a culinary creation, judged by creativity, technique, and speculated deliciousness.

August - Acronym Contest! I'll give a bunch of letters. You tell what they stand for. Prize: CIVILIZATION V!!!
September - Old Jokes. No, not jokes which are old. Old jokes about Dave. What classes did he teach or what was his Thesis paper? Prize to be determined.
Which one would you get rid of? I'm leaning towards removal of the Old Joke Contest. Move the Acronyms to September and have the August contest be cooking. Or maybe ditch them both and have September be Poker Month.

I say get rid of old jokes. We do it all the time anyway and most of 'em are pretty lame. Hard to base a whole month around, plus I don't want you slitting your wrists.

As for prizes, I'm sure there's a way you could get signed editions of a certain line of 3PP roleplaying game books...

I think you should let others help co sponsor prizes. *cough*
Someone had me give them my address once as they said they had an unopened/unused iPhone they were going to give me to give as a prize. It never showed. But since my address is common knowledge anyway I didn't care.

I'm not above having help with prizes. I have to justify it to the wife if I spend too much. But having monthly prizes of $100 - 200 would be unrealistic.

I like the writing contests, I just haven't found the time to participate. The fact is, no matter what the contest is - writing, singing, sport trivia, video, amateur pornography - only a few people are going to participate in it, and someone's going to gripe about it favoring people with talent.
