I am awesome/terrible at karaoke!

I just did karaoke for the first time, and I was either awesome or absolutely terrible. Let me explain

Song 1) Reelin in the Years. I didn't realize that the mic was off for the first 3/4 of the song....

Song 2) Folsom Prison. I kicked ass

Song 3) Black Water. I didn't realize that I had NO idea how the song went other than in the chorus. But while I did fuck up BAD, I did it with a smile and a laugh.

I once sang Dingo's Tahdon rakastella sinua (I Wanna Make Love to You, a crappy 80s song)... and started stripping.

I'm no longer allowed to sing karaoke on Viking Lines cruise ships.

Zoot Suit Riot is my signature song, I tend to do it on the rare occasions when I go out and karaoke is playing. If I get a good bit of hooch in me(either Jack or Captain) I might... MIGHT bust out "Carry on Wayward Son"

My voice and my control over my own tone and pitch are so incredibly bad that I'm pretty much not allowed to even sing in Rock Band. If my friends and I ever go to Karaoke though, I'm pretty sure I'll be forced on stage for precisely that same reason.

I, for one, am glad that Asian karaoke rooms are nice little privat rooms with large leather sofas where no one but the closest (and this is important) friends and family have to suffer through whatever monstrosity croaks it's way out of yur throat.

I like to go once or twice a week!

I didn't know Asians singing well was a stereotype. My best friend is Asian and she's terrible (or maybe it's because she's only half-Asian!!?).

I've never heard this stereotype either. In fact, I've heard the opposite as a stereotype.

I sang some Karaoke last night while we were celebrating my friend's birthday at Friday's. I was the only person in our party to get up and sing but I sang "Short People" by Randy Newman. I also didn't realize how much of the song I didn't know either, but according to my friends, the crowds facial expressions were a mixed variety of shocked, confused, and offended.

I'm a pretty horrible singer, but there's a couple songs I'm actually good at: "Looking Out My Back Door" by CCR and "Land Down Under" by Men At Work. I love Asian karaoke and always indulged myself when I lived in Korea and Hawaii. I wonder if College Station, TX has karaoke places like that. I'll be moving there in August.

I've heard there's a higher prevalence of perfect and near-perfect pitch among Chinese due to the tonal nature of the language. Would that lead to better karaoke singing (where's Terrik and mr_thehun when you need them)?

I've also heard that a goodly number of native Japanese/Koreans (at least the dudes) become decent singers, just from all the practice in karaoke rooms, from trying to impress the ladies. Of course, that's purely hearsay.

Ive only done karaoke once and for now thats enough for me. Me and my friend went and we ended up singing a 2 person song and he could not keep the beat at all. He kept throwing me off making it seem like we were both bad singers. Then he wanted me to do another song with him so I could help him keep the beat but I said no and he crashed and burned up there. Sometimes singing can be so bad its funny but it went beyond that to terrible. Plus it ended up being the final song of the night so people were fuming that their night ended on that note and we had to make a hasty retreat out of there.

then it might be my family, relatives and friends they ALL can sing REALLY well (on key and in tune) on Karaoke and almost sound the same as the original.

Well, good for you. My mom sang awful country songs around the house all the time... and she was bad at it to make it worse.

A hundred times this. I go with my close friends, and what happens in the little karaoke room stays in the little karaoke room.

Except that time a video leaked out, of me singing Aqua's Barbie Girl with another guy. And both of us absolutely butchering the song.

It doesn't matter how you sing, it's all about the song choice and the attitude
