Triple Triad

You may have noticed by now that there's a new tab called Triple Triad above. Those of you who play(ed) the Final Fantasy games might recognize this game. Basically it's a card game where you fill a 9x9 grid with cards trying to change the cards to your color. The person with the most cards of their color (including possibly one in your hand if you went second) wins.

It's not a difficult game to learn but there are intricacies to it because you have to choose your cards, place them in the right offensive/defensive positions, etc.

There are a couple of ways to get new cards. First, you can purchase them using the coin of choice - gil - or when you win you choose one of the cards from the vanquished foe.

Right now there are very few decks that can be purchased and you start with very little coin. But as you post you'll be gaining more and more money to use. Also as of now there's no way to administrate the amount of coin a player has so I can't give or take away any.

Please note I am considering this in the Beta stage as I have to build by hand every deck, every computer player and can even make - get this! - cards based on anything I want....like forumites! So I can make a JCM card with his avatar as the picture!

It really quite limitless in what I CAN do, but right now it's very limited in scope.

If you have suggestions, I'm happy to hear them!

Have fun!

Oh, and a special note to lurkers/unregistered. I usually set these things up so you can play along without feeling like you have to register or sign in. But the way this is set up I can't do anything about it without allowing for some pretty seemingly nasty security holes. So I'm sorry, but you have to be registered and signed in to play. But you can still hit the arcade or the daily game.

I won a card from the CPU, but the computer didn't seem to want me to have it. So, karma....

Ahh man, this was my absolute favorite part of FF8. I had every God damn card, even the one you get from that whore who's ruleset is complete, COMPLETE, bullshit. The ultra randomizer chick from the ruins.

Yeah, I'd like to not have it tied to posting & stuff, but for right now that is what it is.

Now.

I'm having to build new sets. Right now I've only built 3.

Starter Deck: 10 random level 1 cards.
Novice Deck: 10 random cards; 75% chance the random card is level 1, 24% chance level 2 & 1% level 3.
Journeyman Deck: 10 Random cards; 20% chance the random card is level 1, 70% chance level 2 & 10% level 3.

More decks of varying cost will be built but before I did that I wanted to make sure people would like/play the game and that the damned thing would work!

By the way, this means if you think decks are too expensive or even too cheap, please let me know.

I love this game. I use to be pretty good in FF :) I hope I can be good again.

Finally beat Level 2 insane! The computer's a fricken cheater, it uses level 3 cards.

Any chance of opening up some higher level computer opponents?

Creating new CPU Players now.

Level 3: Spammer
Level 4: Lurker
Level 5: Registered User
Level 6: Card Sharp
Level 7: Hacker
Level 8: Cheater
Level 9: Mod
Level 10: Super User
Level 11: Administrator

Also, if you want to make some cards of your own, simply make a card using the templates from the database (which you can access in the game) and send them to me. Remember that the points MUST show on the card.

Oh, and level 3 on up you can no longer see the cards of the opponent unless it's easy mode.

Posting in this thread to get Gil wooo (Though I remember being terrible at this card game, I was a lot better at the one in FFIX)

I'm only seeing the Lurker and Spammer levels so far, though. Is there something I have to do to unlock the higher levels?

EDIT: Also, would it be possible to number or reorder the difficulty levels on the drop-down list? At the moment they're arranged in alphabetical order, which means Lurker ends up above Spammer, making it seem like Lurker is the easier difficulty.

Hmmm. Let me work on that one. I may have to number them.

Temporary fix. Don't like it but it'll work for now.

Dave! I've managed to collect all the cards up to level 4! I need higher level computer opponents!

*twitches*

*hums softly, "Gotta catch 'em all..."*

Basically, there are four numbers on each card. If the number of a card you put down is larger than an adjacent number on an adjacent card, the card with the lower value gets flipped and becomes yours.

Okay, that sounds slightly complicated, so here's a diagram:

Let's say player 1 puts down this card, with a birdie on it:

Then player 2 puts down this card to the right, with the freaky gray guy:

The 8 on the left of the Gray Guy card is larger than the 4 on the right of the Bird card. Therefore, the Bird card is flipped over and now belongs to player 2.

Repeat until all the spaces on the 3 by 3 grid are filled, the player with the most cards belonging to him/her at the end is the winner.

That's the basic rule, there are other, more complicated ones, but you won't need to know them immediately.

Oh, and Dave? The Lurker Insane level doesn't seem to work for me. I can pick my cards, but when I try to start the game, I get a blank vBulletin Message, and the game doesn't start.

Should work now. When I added his 1 level 5 card I accidentally erased all his level 4 cards. So when the game came to start he didn't have enough to begin.

Yep, works fine now.

(And once again, the computer's a cheating bastard... grumble)

Oh, also, is it deliberate that there's nothing above Lurker level at the moment?
