Triple Triad

ok playing with the new VII arena weird things happen when the game ends in a draw. It automatically starts a new one but my cards were changed. After three draws in a row I had four cards that were the exact same even though I only had three of that kind. Then the next match with a draw it changed one of them to a card I did not even have. I think it gave you the cards you were in control of when the match ended.

I like the new progression not as easy to work your way up. Although how do you expect people to afford those top decks?

Gambling, posting, lottery, stealing from the rich guys. Or winning cards.

Oh, and what you ran into was called sudden death. What that means is you guys HAVE to have a winner and whatever cards on the board that are your color when the game is a draw is put in your hand. You don't keep them after the game, but until there's a winner the cards will keep changing hands.

Started a 4 person tournament to see how they go. Note that they are all Sudden Death so no draws. Plus at the end of each draw you get the cards that are your color placed in your hand. You don't get to keep these cards, but you use them for the duration.

Entry is free and winner gets 100 HB.

C'mon, people! I want to test this tourney thing!

I'll make them a regular deal.

Hell I'll give you 100 HB just for participating!

I picked FFVII because then Bhamv can't just kick the shit out of us.
:smug:

Actually, I think Krisken's a better player than I am. I just dominate the FF8 card game because I liked FF8 so much, and played Triple Triad in-game obsessively. With the same level cards, though, Krisken (and probably others) would win more than they lose against me.

I probably spent more time playing Triple Triad than I ever spent studying. I spent two weeks trying to get the last card I needed, which was Rinoa. You had to lose Ifrit to a player in one town (and if you had a more powerful card they would take that one instead), and then it would show up in another town and you had to play against that player with the random rule, so it took tons of matches for it to show up. I was so mad at the end of it, I stopped playing FF8.

Well, the story didn't help ;)

I don't know, I think Bhamv would give me a run for my money.

Hah, now I finally figured out how Plus works. Won't be long before I can finally get somewhere on the WoW setlist

Alright, I joined the tournament. Even though I have a grand total of 5 cards in my ff7 collection.

Should be quick, at least!

We should have an even match then, I'm playing with the starter kit as well. :)

Heh. Disqualified for inactivity - that's what I get for trying to play during the lulls in a wow raid, I guess.

Thanks for the games Dave and Vrii. It looks like my FF7 deck need some work. :)

Mine too. That'll come once I finish the World of Warcraft collection, though.

By the way, what is the timer to get disqualified in the tournaments? All it said was 'after a specific length of time' or something like that, which is...not terribly helpful.

Wow. Fuck Onyxia.
Onyxia?[/QUOTE]

Also the third-to-last match in the WoW set. Relevant rules:

Match Rules
Combo
Plus
Random
Sudden Death
Elemental

Victory Rule
Difference

So not only do I get a random selection of (inevitably shitty) cards to play against her excellent ones, I also lose 2+ of them each time she manages to win.

And it looks like all three of the last opponents have similar sets of rules. It just isn't fun.

My current plan to deal with Random is to gather higher level cards and intentionally lose all of my lower level cards, play the random game (left only with my high level cards), and then win them back later on.

Agreed. Random is a kick in the balls. We'll see how long it takes to collect all of the cards with that rule in place!

What the game really needs is the ability to sell back cards for HalBucks (amount of bucks dependent on level of cards) and trade with other players. Probably impossible to implement, but would definitely make playing a little less frustrating.

Trading would definitely be interesting. Then I could beg Krisken to share some of his Edeas, mine keep getting taken by Administrator.

Always shoot for a tie or a lucky win with the Administrator. 2 Edeas and 3 Doom Trains guarantee a tie at worst.

I'd be happy to trade some of them away, but mostly it would fuel my rise to be able to sell my excess off for packs in the other games. At this rate, I'll be Dave's age before completing all of the games!

Okay, so does random pull in cards from all levels?

That would suck. I'm going to keep them on for a little bit but will get with the developers to see if there's a way to set random for only certain levels and not go into a level 11 battle with level 1-4 cards.

Yeah, it does. 5 random cards from everything you own.

It worked the same way in ff8, though, so it's not really surprising. Just kind of frustrating, especially against opponents that only have top-level cards.

From the developer:

While this can be done, it would be going against the core rules of Triple Triad. If random wasn't truely random, the rule becomes pointless. Despite that, one of the features I have knocking around in my head for the future is placing a Level Limitation on matches (so only cards from X, Y, Z levels can be used), group that with a modifier so the random rule abides by this level limitation and you'd get what you're asking for. For now however the rules are maintained exactly like Triple Triad, until modifiers come in later

I also found out I can change the rarity of cards so that monsters will only use them every once in a while. They can be set up as unique or rare.

Rarity would be interesting, but it would have the drawback (or benefit?) of making certain cards much, much harder to get. It wouldn't be a big deal in some of the matches, but against someone using random, I can see it getting really annoying.

More Developer stuff:

Cards don't have a defined price, wouldn't be able to really sell it back for a value (though we could add that in
). That said, we've got Auctions/Trading on the list for future updates so users can sell to others or swap card(s)

Thanks for checking into it Dave. I'd definitely advocate for adding value to the cards to have a sell or even auction block.
