Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel coming in 2011

I can see one season of the city. If it goes well, there could be more season. If not, adventures could move outside of it. And, I can't wait to see what her spirit animal is. Roku had the dragon, Aang had Aapa. I'm sure the girl will have something that can get her from place to place. I also read that the series will have a more grown up feel to it than the original did.
I kinda think the Spirit Animal things was more tied to the fact that these animals were original benders (Sky Bisons were the first Airbenders, Dragons the first Firebenders, and Badger Moles were the first Earthbenders)... but if that's the case, then it's possible she could have a close relationship to Yue the Moon Spirit, as the Moon was the original Waterbender.

I don't think getting around is going to be a problem... if she ever leaves the city, she could use a Water Tribe boat or Fire Nation blimp.

Hey, she's got water, fire, and earth (metal)... that'd probably be pretty good for manipulating steampunk tech.

This also means Aang dies at 65. For a vegetarian Avatar to die that young, it will need to be in battle, or an assassination.
Tossing out an idea in spite of not having watched much of the show: or it was just, in the cycle of rebirth and stuff, deemed his time supernaturally. He did get Captain America'd for quite a while after all. Such a thing would undoubtedly be a sore spot for his son...whom Korra has to earn Airbending from.

Oh, yeah, like I said...don't get me wrong, I am down for this new series. Especially jumping ahead like that, so everyone we know will either be long gone or at the very least, super old (much like many of Aang's old friends).

But at the same time, these guys are clearly incredibly creative and I had hoped we'd see something entirely new from them.
I would not be entirely shocked if they revealed that the network was kicking around ideas for a spin-off/sequel and then the original team stepped in (kind of like Disney, Pixar, and Toy Story 3, y'know?). No evidence of that but...I'd believe it.

Do we know exactly how far ahead this takes place? It's entirely possible to run into everyone if it's only something like 50-60 years later. Hell, Bumi was like 112 and the Guru was even OLDER. Besides... it's likely some of the unanswered questions (like what happened to Zuko's mom) will be important to this series, so we'll probably get a few flashback episodes that take place in the years after Airbender but before the new series.

Yep, it's 70 years after the end of the current series. Which would put Aang at 82ish. But then since they made clear that the Avatar is reincarnated that means that a new Avatar isn't born until after the death of the previous Avatar. So if this new Avatar is in her teens then Avatar Aang would have had to have died at least 12 years previously. So Aang would have lived to between 65 and 70.

Unless you count the time he was frozen than he would be 165 - 170 give or take a few years
Which would lend to my "spirit world might have decided it was his time unless that flies in the face of other stuff from the show" idea some help.

Holy crap! the Lion Turtle was hinted at throughout the series. That is from the pilot. And there were pics, and statues of him in each season.

I'm watching this again with my wife. It's SO great. This is one of my favorite TV series in recent memory and favorite cartoon.

I finally got around to buying the whole DVD set. Me an my brother are planning on doing an all day Avatar marathon coming up sometime soon.

Meh, I don't think it's a cop out. Then again, I'm an easy going viewer who liked the endings of both Lost and BSG.

I don't think he needed to learn that from the Lion Turtle--he's the fucking Avatar.

I love the finale.

"Firelord Ozi! You and your family have upset the balance of this world! And for that you will pay the ultimate price..."

You were expecting more so soon after being announced? If they had more to show, they probably would have waited until SDCC to reveal it existed at all.

Yup. Aang also admired a drawing of a lion turtle in Wan Shi Tong's library.
Doesn't make it any less of a cop-out :D
Truth. The Lion Turtle and the Pointy Rock were ridiculous appearances in the finale.

Still a badass finale though. :)
Actually, in the season premier, Katara mentions "There's a lot of energy twisted up in this spot" in regards to the spot where the pointy rock hits, so the hint was there. It probably could have been hinted at more, but it works for me.

No no... we're not complaining about the fact that it could have been released. We're complaining that he was thrown into a rock and it hit him at JUST THE RIGHT SPOT to unlock his chi, WHILE fighting the Fire Lord. It was a little too much Deus Ex Machina for us is all.

If anything, they should have had Aang come across someone who COULD fix it for him and done an episode about that. For instance, Ty Lee could have done it after her Heel Face Change at The Boiling Rock.

Avatar: The Legend of Korra

Just came across this piece of news while browsing TvTropes:

‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’: Nickelodeon Greenlights TV Spinoff ‘The Legend of Korra’

Ladies and gentlemen... there's gonna be a sequel to The Last Airbender TV series. And as a late arrival to the series, I have to say I feel somewhat conflicted. Part of me wanted to see more of the Gaang, but a more mature part of me thought the story was well-written and thematically solid, so stapling on an extra season just for the money would have the risk of feeling like... well, stapled-on.

That being said, my jaw still dropped when I read about this. Not sure what to make about it, though... I liked the fantasy mysticism of the world versus the almost Peter-Jackson's-Isengard-like technocratism of the Fire Nation, so some of the ideas seem a little... off. Republic City? What happened to Ba Sing Se? MORE steampunk, after just 75 years? Anti-bender riots? But, at least one score will be settled:
Aang and Katara schtoinked since there's gonna be a fellow called Tenzin, their son ;) I can just hear Zutara shippers going NOOOOOOOOOO!! XD

Not much yet available, except for a picture that looks a little familiar...

My wife know some people who took part in making the original Avatar series. She told me that the 2nd season the creator took a "hands off" in the making and thus I feel it is better (more hint of Zuko + Katara match up) but the creators didn't like the direction and took over in 3rd season which seem rushed and Deus Ex Machina :(

Note: Aang would be the YOUNGEST avatar in terms of lifespan. All the other Avatar live at LEAST 80+ years.

Also note: All the original cast are dead in this new series.

Oh man, I wanted to know if Sokka turned out to be a badass grandpa :( After all, his master - Piandao, was it? - hinted that he had the makings of a great swordsman.

Your mind probably (understandably) glossed over it as a topic about a sequel to the shitty M Night movie that just came out.
I haven't seen it yet, it doesn't premier in here until mid-September. But you say it's shitty? :(
