D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

Hi Jay & fellow adventurers!

So I was pointed to this forum by a friend that I was talking to as there are no local gamers where I live. Online is clearly my best option and it seems like you've got a helluva good campain brewing.

However, it seems that I may be hitting another dead end as I work Mon-Fri 4pm-10 pm atlantic time. However, I thought I'd ask anyway, if you plan on playing the same day every week? That or know of any other options that I may pursue?

Either way, I hope you guys enjoy your campaign. With the backstory & character backstories I've glimpsed at here, it seems like it'll be a good one. :)

I'm working on the backstory some, but here's a brief rundown:

Name: Falagar
Race: Human
Class: Wizard
Primary Occupation: Monster Hunter

Has a pet Tiny Gelatinous Cube (Familiar)

Brash, loud, and oftentimes incompetent, though he has an extensive knowledge of creatures of all planes. Well-versed in legend and lore, and has a story for just about everything; rarely does anyone know if they're true or not.

Has Bruce Campbell's voice

Meta-Game:
Monster Hunter Backround (+2 to monster knowledge checks)
Wild Sage Feat (+5 to identify natural monsters)
[Level 2 when it comes] Legend Lore Skill Power (Use History in place of ANY knowledge check) [History is +10]

So monster-wise, I (will) have a +12 to any monster check, +17 to natural creatures. I'd take Deep Sage (+5 aberrant monster knowledge) but I think my familiar will be fun.

Game starts at 7pm and probably ends around 10pm or a little later.

Sadly I'm not looking for another player for the game though you may check out the other D&D thread.

So, who's still unsure on what characters to roll?

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

So far we have a Tiefling Hybrid Psion/Ardent (controller/leader), a Dwarf Fighter (defender), a Human Wizard (controller), and a Changeling Assassin (striker).

I haven't posted my character stat stuff yet because I'm still trying to decide which will be the more useful Psion talent, telekinesis or telepathy. At level 2 I get something like telekinesis, but it's a daily instead of an encounter. I used both in Tyrdin's backstory for the sake of art, but I'm not sure which will better suit us.

I'll post the short, short version of his backstory soon for those not wanting to read the long spiel.

Hmm, I'd been considering potentially changing to a Revenant Wizard. I'm not sure which would go better with the other party members. Falagar would go better with a "normal" group, and this group is a motley crew, Helga being the most normal.

I dunno. What do you guys think would be more fun to party with? A bumbling, loud-mouthed, incompetent monster-hunting wizard, or a lich bordering on comedic violent insanity looking for his purpose, his past, and to get revenge on whoever created him?

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

I liked the big-game hunter vibe a lot actually. :)

Plus Jay has told us that we'll have to deal with the consequences of our races. Which I took to mean that people would be kinda weirded out (ie. possibly terrified or even hostile) about a group that's like, one human, a goblin, a half-demon, a dragonman, some kinda undead, etc. It's a disturbing sight. It'd be kinda cool if we could go into a town ever. I'm normal, Shawn's capable of a myriad of disguises, and Darryl's character is based around the idea that he'll never really be welcomed with open arms by society. I can't imagine a "comedically insanely violent lich" keeping a low profile anywhere.

By all means, play whatever you feel like playing, but I prefer the monster hunter idea myself.

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

I'm not huge on that lich idea. I'm not one to say NO to my potential players but that also puts a lot of unneeded thought process on how to consistently have to take that into consideration especially when a "comedically insanely violent lich" would be a bad fit for an adventure group. I even though Revenants are a very particular choice as well as that character type is the carton of milk type of character with an expiry date. The Raven Queen didn't grant you ever lasting life afterall.

I like the monster hunter idea myself. I can work many types of sub-plots with that kind of storyline depending on what you provide.

I also want to take an opportunity to inform you that HC won't be joining us this game. Yesterday, he sent me a vague message he won't be attending my game. No reason why.

I pretty much agree. I was curious on what others thought though. Monster Hunter it is!

So no Julie or Hugs?

But.... But.... We wuff them. :( Who else will play wif us?

Actually, I have a friend that is -desperate- to play DnD, and he'd probably love this game. He really gets into it. Thing is, he plays basically a Kratash with no regard for consequences. =P Which always leads to comedic happenings. I can see if he'd be able to play, if you want?

I'm not sure what you're asking, but his play style is basically the same as Kratash. Bad ideas, disregard for safety, etc. =P

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

Hopefully not the interrupting "before you can answer, I kill him" type of thing Kratash was doing the first few sessions, before we explained that this isn't like playing with your action figures.

Hang on before talking to him, though, Doom, and see if we can get anything more on HC--if not, sure.

Julie's out for now--she may or may not change her mind in the future. She just needs one less D&D game going on right now. When she's feeling better, we'll see.

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

We'll a 5th player would suit my needs so he should get an answer within a few days. What sort of character?

I think that was the go ahead to talk to him, so I'll call him, get him on the forums, and he can post here.

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

Hi guys. DoomDragon invited me to the forums to join a game. What all would I need to play?

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

You say so boss.

Although I don't think we need another Controller, either.

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

Whatever you want dude. :) Maybe talk to Doom if you wanna play a sorceror, he plays one in our other game, plus as a Wizard in this game, you guys might end up looking for similar kinds of loot, depending on your build.

well, before i decide what to play, is there anything in particular the group NEEDS?

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

Healing is always good (as I like to run fast intense combat). But as far as the group comp goes, it's got all the basics covered. Whatever makes you happy.

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

My character is almost done, but I'm putting work on him on hold so I can do some planning for the game tomorrow.

I've discussed it with Doom, and he's alright with playing with a sorcerer. So I'm officially stating right now I'll play a Dragonborn Sorcerer.

---------- Post added at 08:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:22 PM ----------

If that's okay with everyone else, of course.

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

Welcome to the game then! I'll allow Doom to descibe things to you. Read my first post to get up to speed on the rules and the storyline. I'd like a character sheet from you by the weekend if possible. Actually, this goes for everyone. You can take a bit more time for your backstories. I got a few more questions for you to fill out sometime next week as well.

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

Almost immediate edit: Change Shield Feint (at will) into Brash Strike.

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

Welcome, Rathkor!

I recommend, Doom, you test Gametable with him beforehand so we don't have any delay issues the first night of Jay's game.

I'll post my summary version of backstory and character sheet stuff soon.

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

Remember that I'm using a new version of gametable (check first post). Download it, open it and take a look.

D&D Jay's Game - Helga Doesn't Approve

I tried opening it; nothing comes up aside the icon of it being a Java program. No actual grid appears, nor a place for macros.
