1 is the only one I've played more than once. I can pick my party and their classes? omg. I can play the whole game with nothing but white mages if I want? jesus.

I inexplicably hated it when party members left my party or were killed off in the course of the story lines. I understand people liked this element of the games but I didn't, I would play them wondering 'okay who's going to leave now' and hoarding equipment I found. Or, when possible going back a save and stripping the player before they left.

I was going to finish up my Final Fantasy analysis posts, but since we're doing it.

One of the greatest rpgs, by my 3 criteria, and a SQUARE made game?

Xenogears
I'd agree if it were actually a finished game. It's got the same problem 12 has. They finished half of the game, ran out of time and/or money, then rocketed the second half at you in the least coherent way possible. I fucking loved Xenogears disc 1. Disc 2....not so much.

Initially I hated 7, but that was because everyone I knew was practically dry-humping the game with no regard for the previous FF's. I tried to talk to people about 4 and 6 and I got blank stares. Once I really gave 7 a chance, though, I liked it...though I thought Cid should have been the main character because he's a fucking badass.

Umm... 12 has a complete, coherent story. Are you talking about 9? Maybe 8?

Have you played 12 all the way through? The last 1/4 of the game is break neck pace compared to everything before it. The dude that took over for the Tactics guy even laments the way the game turned out citing huge differences in the teams visions.

Guild Wars was a fantastic game which did something other MMO's weren't able to do for me- keep me interested. The second one looks fantastic. I definitely look forward to seeing this!

So.. anyone playing the FFXIV open beta?
It looks like garbage from the videos I've watched. Is it?[/QUOTE]

I haven't decided yet. My poor computer can BARELY run the damn thing so I haven't spent too much time with it. The game has it's problems for sure and I think anyone who's only ever played WoW generation MMOs might be left running for the hills very quickly. This is not the type of game that's going to hold your hand, give you a nice pat on the head and tell exactly where to go and what to do all the time, and I feel like if I haven't played FFXI back in the day the gamepad-centric controls would be pretty hard to get used to.

To it's credit the game is absolutely gorgeous, I love the way the class system is designed, and there's just this feeling of a living breathing world that has been absent from more recent MMOs. I feel like the core audience of this game will be former FFXI players and other oldschool MMO players who will enjoy a game more akin to previous gen MMOs.

My copy of xiv arrives in a few hours. Good bye everyone. I love you all, and will miss you when I take food breaks.

I just got it last night and patch it. I play a little. I'm on Besaid mainly I got acquaintance playing on that server that I might hook up if I start playing regularly.

That looks pretty damned impressive. If it's still around in 5 or 6 years I may pick it up (I should have a new system by then).

Judging by the listed sysreqs, no way can I play the game without upgrading my system, so all I'm going to say is that with every new FF game I think that Square really, really, really wishes that their movie business lasted longer.

I have two friends who've played the beta, they tell me it's the worst MMO they've ever played and both were years long FF11 addicts.

They still make movies, just usually not for themselves. I know they've farmed out their CG team to other features and have made shorts for other projects like The Animatrix[/b]. Plus they did Final Fantasy: Advent Children, what... 2-3 years ago? They still do it, it's just not an entire studio anymore.

Yeah, the gameplay vids and the way the game is systematically set up alone told me that much. Sad that it turned out the same.

I was literally about ready to go run to gamestop to pick up a copy of XIV, but my computer is only scoring 800 on the benchmark (1500 is the minimum). Guess I'll just have to wait for it to come out for PS3.

1: Started and played for a while until I got really lost and raped in a cave! I saved in the cave but can't get out without fighting my way out and my characters are waaaay too low level for the cave. So I stopped playing. :(
2: Started but didn't get very far.
3 & 4: Fiance owns them and really enjoys them. I have yet to try 'em out.
6: Fiance's favorite! I got pretty far but the game is sooooo long! I love the characters, though!
7: Sadly have not played... I know it's the favorite, but I've watched most of this one.
9: MY FAVORITE! Love, love, love the characters. Enjoyed the story but greatly disliked the card game. I also wish it were not so pixel-y. Hoping they get around to remaking this one soon! <3
10: Sooo pretty. Again, loved the characters and the story but I hated Blitzball. HATED it. The sphere grid was strange but once I got used to it, I kind of liked it! It gave you a bit more freedom with your characters. <3
12: Bought it, wasn't used to the battle system and didn't get very far. Going to try again, though.

I found IV for the DS! Playing through it between classes. :)

I: Classic. After hearing so much about it, I decided to play through it once... I had forgotten about Warmech. I don't make that mistake anymore.

VII: Overhyped, but still a fun game. Nothing more to be said about it that hasn't already been said.

VIII: Yeah, the draw system was annoying, but once you realize you can get all the good magic from modding cards, it's all good.

IX is probably my favorite overall. Vivi stands as one of my favorite character arcs in a game. Biggest pet peeve off the top of my head? The godawful trance system.

X is probably my second favorite after IX. Amazing characters, good development, and an interesting storyline to keep things moving. Also, the ending cutscene still makes me weep manfully.

Final Fantasy IV is one of those ones I've never beaten because I get so pissed off at randomly being RNGed by the random encounters and dying out of the blue.
