based on the first trailer, I thought the guys who made this movie thought t, and wanted to do that for a whole movie, then borrowed liberally from independence day and war of the worlds.

really? I laughed my ass off, realizing that was the moment when the original screen writer said "...... aww fuck it! Deus Ex Machina! This isn't a kidnapping story anymore! Aliens did it! Lets sixth sense this up baby!"

Well it was the suddenness of it that shocked the hell out of me. It was really out of nowhere.
My 18 year old dog recently lost control of her legs (we assume from a stroke, although it could have been a lot of other things). We've been struggling with the knowledge that she probably doesn't have much longer to live, and that only with a lot of care will her remaining life be worth living.
A few days ago I had a dream based on the Skyline trailer, where the aliens came and start ripping people into the sky and my family and I tried to survive by hiding in the areas they had already pillaged. We had to keep moving, and we had to keep carrying my dog the whole time, because if we didn't she'd just lie by himself until she starved to death and her heart stopped beating. I woke up shortly after circumstances forced us to leave her behind.

Once I recovered from my speechlessness I was like, "...Okay!?", slouched in my seat, and basically stopped caring.

It will probably be awful, yet I feel compelled to see it. Damn science fiction always reels me in!

Personally, I'm curious about Skyline. It looks like it heavily borrowed from Independence Day, but I can't deny that the special effects look great. From what a co-worker told me, they may have been behind AvP: R's special effects, but there was a lot of studio meddling involved. They want to create their own stuff. So, it's essentially a low-budget, self-financed movie.
I'll probably check it out in theatres. Part of me thinks this might be a surprise hit.
