Sorry to Only ever post updates....It's just all I have time for right now. I do hope everyone is well.

All is well here...Working like a crazy person but on the bright side I pick up my leased 2010 Toyota Yaris hatchback tomorrow...So I guess hardwork pays off.

What is everyone up to?

Not much. Had some Thanksgiving and Halloween, started a land war in Russia, invented curly fries.

Yep things are well...Sometimes so great I wonder how It happened.......I guess I'm surprised at how well I've coped since May...I can't complain at all about anything everything is just fantastic :)

And yes espy Cars Do Rock ....I cannot wait to have that freedom !

And so Y'all know I invented Curly fries.....So stop trying to take credit for something I did lol :)

Good to hear from you again. Humph, curly fries are overrated. When you dip them in ketchup you just get a big blob of it in each fry.

Aw fuck I was in Montreal recently! I should've PM'd you, you could've shown me and my friend around!

Anyways, glad you're doing well!

My dad would always tell me never to lease a car.

I have no idea why.
Leasing a car is, generally, not a good value. It's in the same category as pay-day loans, rent-to-own furniture/appliances, whole life insurance and, to a certain extent, credit card debt.

There are only a very limited set of circumstances where leasing a car makes sense financially. It's only cheaper than buying if you know you aren't going to drive over the yearly mileage allowance, and you replace your car every year or two anyway (which is very, very expensive). Another reason might be that one doesn't have good credit, and leasing provides an option to have a new car without great credit. If you work for a car company leasing may occasionally be cheaper than buying.

There are many other reasons someone might lease a car beyond financial considerations. Once might choose to lease a car they cannot afford to buy because they want it for whatever reason. People involved in sales and client care might need to provide the impression that business is going very well, and they are willing to pay extra for that impression. Alternately they know they are going to replace their car every year anyway, and in that case leasing is always cheaper than buying and selling each year.

But if your primary motivation is "I need to conserve money, and I need to get from point A to point B reasonably" then leasing is rarely your best deal, though it may be your only deal if you are trying to build up your credit.

But I come from a long line of, "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without" type folks, so I buy good used cars, then keep using them until they cost more to fix than $0.10 a mile. In other words, if I have to replace the transmission (about $2,000), then the car has to give me an additional 20k miles before requiring another major repair. If I think it won't last that long, then it's time to junk the car and move on.

I always love what you have to write :) You are half correct .... I agree leasing isn't the greatest and Believe me I would have preferred to get a used car and have it be my own but thing I'm realizing since divorce is my I don't have anyone ...Meaning I asked around for help to find a used a car and no one was really jumping on the oppurtunity to help...Also I had asked my mother for help and well that got me nowhere......So after weeks of trying to figure out the safest way to go about this and not show up at a used car place alone I realized that sometimes in life you gotta take matters into your own hands.

I don't have a ton of money as my ex will not soon no longer be paying me and I have a cashier job , My credit has gone down a bit after being in a different country for awhile and well I knew if i Leased i'd be safe because it's a brand new car. I also chose to lease because my life is just starting over again...It's settled for now but who knows where my future will take me and well a lease felt safer in the event I chose I wanted to leave this province or move away again. I can still get my green card back so I think about that alot....Anyway I just thought for now with everything that has happened that it would be safer going with a lease and that way i'd gain experience and learn about buying cars.

I'm proud I did it alone...I woke up one day hopped into a cab and went to Toyota and told them I needed something inexpensive that was good on gas that I could rely on....AND VOILA ! tonight at 530 pm I will have my very first car. I hope in my lease time to have grown much more then I already have and be better set to be able to buy my first owned car and I hope by then to be moved out. All in all I'd say this divorce rocks.......I've grown as a person and learned and realized there isn't anything I can't do by myself :)

That's cool, it's always hard to get back up, and I'm glad to see you doing well after having been thrown about for a bit. I think you've made a good decision on the lease - it really does fit your needs, and is a good stepping stone to financial and physical independence.

I just leased a Toyota Corolla XRS for my wife... the lease that we set up with Toyota ends up saving us money in the long run versus financing it. It was weird how that worked.

Enjoy your Yaris! :). Car freedom is always good.

Congrat on the car. You know any one of us would gladly help if we were local (That is Local not Loco ;) ) Canada is a bit far from Dallas, Texas.

It is good to go out and try things. I know it can be scary, but most places would want your business instead of trying to "ruin you" (legit business anyways)

glad you are doing well. Keep up the good work.
