This is the first new Winnie the Pooh movie in 35 years. I had my doubts. Then I watched the trailer.

If these aren't the original voices they did a fucking amazing job finding sound-a-likes. The only two that sound a little different are Owl and Eeyore...and Eeyore is close.

Enjoy a movie that enhances your childhood, not ruin it.

Wow, that just un raped my childhood. I was a little skeptical before I watched the trailer but I was laughing out loud by the time it was done. That looks absolutely amazing. Can't wait for this to come out.

Is it actually hand-drawn or is it just traditional 2D animation, which has been done on computers anyway for many years now. I'm pretty sure Princess Mononoke was the last film to actually have been hand-drawn.

Hand drawn. Also, Princess and the Frog was hand drawn.
Also Secret of Kells was largely hand drawn.

What do you mean, hand drawn? Digital compositing was used on "hand drawn" movies years before Disney axed their traditional animation department. Since they eliminated their traditional animators everything they've done has been done in the computer.

The backgrounds are obviously hand drawn - as long as you don't object to the drawing surface being a wacom tablet.

I guess the only thing I can see one might use to make a difference is:

Are the characters parametrically animated, or are they drawn each major frame by hand (possibly tweened by computer or another wage slave)?

I suspect that in this case they are animated via computer - you don't draw the character moving their arm, you select the bones and move them, and the computer determines how the rest of the character outline should follow.

I don't care how it is animated. It looks like the stories of old, the voices are close and it looks like it will be as whimsical. I can't wait.

Yeah, we're just being animation geeks. I miss the rough look of old hand-drawn films, like you used to see on Making of documentaries for Disney films, and they flip the pages to show the character moving.

That looks charmingly amazing. Can't wait. Though, I'm not crazy about a pop song for the trailer. Minor complaint.

Also, this BETTER NOT BE IN GODDAMN 3-D.

I don't mean it's anathema to use a computer as part of the process, because computers greatly speed up and enhance the quality of animation that can be done. What I'm talking about is the animation style: these days, everyone is copying the visual 3-D style made popular by Pixar, which is causing the traditional 2-D visual style of animated films to all but disappear. This isn't to say that they are ugly or anything, because they usually aren't, but I'd still like some variety in my animation.

At least the song is a bittersweet ballad and not something like "Poker Face".

Awwww, that looks sweet. I admit having seen only bits and pieces of the original Pooh movie, but I think I could very easily go and see this without feeling outta place.

Okay, now I've watched the trailer.

I'm so glad Mike Eisner is gone.

However, I fear that scene of Pooh rising from a giant honey pot is going to be a standard Disney showtune.

I'm surprisingly interested... especially considering Winnie The Pooh isn't part of my childhood, but of my sister's (wich means it has been part of my late teens... I've always loved the characters though. )

Sorry for being the obligatory grump, but man. The Disney Pooh has always been a flashpoint of nerd rage for me. I'm a huge fan of the books, and the Disney adaptations have always driven me up the wall. And in this preview, Owl explains the "Issue" joke. He explains the damned joke, for fuck's sake.

Better to leave now than to rain even more on everybody's parade, I think. :whistling:

Great children's movies have things that aren't meant for kids, that don't need to be explained in detail.

Still, might be a good one.
