... and they look awful!

I think Cap looks fine... it's actually a good, realistic look. But the villains! The cheesiness! Ugh!

I see they are following the Hydra instead of Nazis route. Maybe it was already known or is part of comic canon or whatever, but I don't exactly know ho wto feel about that. Since I saw it on those avengers animated shorts, I've felt it's both kind of weird and kind of... liberating. Finally I can enjoy nazis without their terrible real life actions.

Anyone getting an Agent Smith "Mr. Anderson........." vibe from that pic?

Philosopher B.

So, are you saying you don't like it.

Nudge nudge, wink wink.

First impression isn't great. Not terrible, but not great. I don't care that much about Captain America, though, so it's hard to have strong feelings either way. It looks like they've got a decent cast, at least: Agent Smith, Capote, and the Human Torch.

I would SO watch that movie.
If I may invoke the old "make movies even more awesome" game on a past Halforums:

Captain America - The First Avenger: During WWII, the Human Torch is given a serum that makes him a super soldier, then goes battle the forces of Hydra led by V and Truman Capote.

Someone's got an obsession with suspenders... even the bad guys have huge metal ones...

Hopefully the Nazi's are still in for the WWII part... with Hydra being the Red Skulls special forces thing that he also keeps afterwards.

I'm still disappointed that the casting of Chris Evans means no Fantastic Four/Captain America crossover. Cause that's guaranteed to be so bad it'll be good.

I dunno, I kinda like the costume: at first I thought it looked silly, but if you think about it, it's like they took the original costume and made it look more "military" without going too Liefeld style.

Also, does the presence of Toby Jones mean that the whole movie will be revealed to be an hallucination of the Doctor's? He even kept the bow tie! :p

They're rebooting the FF franchise so we may still get it. As long as they get a decent Dr. Doom (or at least keep Julian McMahon and similar types outside of a 50 km radius of the casting call) it will be better than that dreck.

I get a Rocketeer vibe from that second pic for some reason. I like the design. More Ultimate-style.

There was never going to be a Fantastic Four cross-over, just like there won't be a Spider-Man or X-Men. Sony won't give the rights back to Marvel so that Marvel Productions can work with the series.

And that's why the suspenders are so jarring... heck, imo it would have been an improvement if they made have more and smaller red straps holding up the pants...

Right now i'm expecting them to reveal that after the war he changed his name to Larry and started hosting a talk show...

I'm pretty sure it looks just as stupid as the whole of Captain America is stupid. Face it, most comic book heroes are .... stupid.

Totally, Iron Man 1-2, Hulk and the upcoming Thor, totally stupid. Totally.

Don't even get me started on the stupidty of Spider-Man 1-2 and Batman Begins/Dark Knight.

Keyword is most.

Captain America is propaganda driven bullshit. Thor is probably the dumbest comic book concept next to Ant-Man.

Spider-Man, Iron Man, Batman are fun action movies that were well done, but Apocalypse Now, they ain't. Even Spider-Man is really kinda cheesy once you take the rose-colored glasses off. Batman, hell, didn't we cover how lame and campy the villians in Batman can be in the Dark Knight Rising thread? Iron Man is getting dumb. The third installment is going towards Nick Fury and SHIELD garbage...

There are a few solid comic book heroes (incidentally, you just rang off movies with some of the most solid ones), but the majority of comic book heroes are really stupid. I'm sorry to hurt your feelings, but it's true.

Here take you list of "good" comic book movies and compare it to mountain of bad ones that dwarf it.

Why yes.. using bio-chemistry to improve someone's physical attributes... that never happens in real life.

Also, blond, blue eyed physically perfect human fighting the nazis... and his creators being of jewish descent... hoyl symbolism Batman.

If you didn't get that I was ribbing you and if you take anything Alien says with a grain of salt, you're doing it wrong. -wink-

I think Captain America is probably the most difficult superhero to make look...believable...in live action. They've actually done pretty well with it, I think.

Well I guess since I actually look for conversation and interesting opinions when I post here, I must be.

Colors and helmet aside, his uniform doesn't look that different from a standard paratrooper uniform from WW2 aside from being more form-fitting.

They had lots of pouches and shit, too.

Military uniforms in general have lots of pouches on them. When you put on gear you'll have even more pouches on.

Pictures look interesting. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Really, the dumbest thing is the lack of camouflage. He's superhuman, so I guess it is okay. Maybe he can get by without.

"Wear this bright blue and red gear and carry a bullseye into battle. It will really inspire the troops and the folks back home." That just seems like a suicide mission in the name of morale to me.

Mystery Men was pretty cheesy but turned out OK (mainly because the actors realized it was cheesy and the plot was intended to be a bit cheesy). I gotta say that I don't want to see this turn into some sort of hacked-up schlockfest that looks like it was meant for SyFy. Cap is one of the cornerstones of the entire Marvel franchise, and if they don't treat him with some respect, I'm gonna be disappointed. And so will millions of other potential moviegoers.
