I think Cap looks fine... it's actually a good, realistic look. But the villains! The cheesiness! Ugh!

I see they are following the Hydra instead of Nazis route. Maybe it was already known or is part of comic canon or whatever, but I don't exactly know ho wto feel about that. Since I saw it on those avengers animated shorts, I've felt it's both kind of weird and kind of... liberating. Finally I can enjoy nazis without their terrible real life actions.

Nazi Robot Stormtroopers, FTL
I don't like the helmet. The rest of the uniform is OK.
The fatigues and shield looks good.

Anyone getting an Agent Smith "Mr. Anderson........." vibe from that pic?

Reminds me more of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
Don't be silly. He needs a gun the size of his own body and more pockets. Oh, and tiny, tiny feet.

First impression isn't great. Not terrible, but not great. I don't care that much about Captain America, though, so it's hard to have strong feelings either way. It looks like they've got a decent cast, at least: Agent Smith, Capote, and the Human Torch.
If I may invoke the old "make movies even more awesome" game on a past Halforums:
Captain America - The First Avenger: During WWII, the Human Torch is given a serum that makes him a super soldier, then goes battle the forces of Hydra led by V and Truman Capote.

Someone's got an obsession with suspenders... even the bad guys have huge metal ones...
Hopefully the Nazi's are still in for the WWII part... with Hydra being the Red Skulls special forces thing that he also keeps afterwards.
I'm still disappointed that the casting of Chris Evans means no Fantastic Four/Captain America crossover. Cause that's guaranteed to be so bad it'll be good.

I dunno, I kinda like the costume: at first I thought it looked silly, but if you think about it, it's like they took the original costume and made it look more "military" without going too Liefeld style.
Also, does the presence of Toby Jones mean that the whole movie will be revealed to be an hallucination of the Doctor's? He even kept the bow tie!

They're rebooting the FF franchise so we may still get it. As long as they get a decent Dr. Doom (or at least keep Julian McMahon and similar types outside of a 50 km radius of the casting call) it will be better than that dreck.

I get a Rocketeer vibe from that second pic for some reason. I like the design. More Ultimate-style.
There was never going to be a Fantastic Four cross-over, just like there won't be a Spider-Man or X-Men. Sony won't give the rights back to Marvel so that Marvel Productions can work with the series.

And that's why the suspenders are so jarring... heck, imo it would have been an improvement if they made have more and smaller red straps holding up the pants...
Right now i'm expecting them to reveal that after the war he changed his name to Larry and started hosting a talk show...

I'm pretty sure it looks just as stupid as the whole of Captain America is stupid. Face it, most comic book heroes are .... stupid.

Totally, Iron Man 1-2, Hulk and the upcoming Thor, totally stupid. Totally.
Don't even get me started on the stupidty of Spider-Man 1-2 and Batman Begins/Dark Knight.
Captain America is propaganda driven bullshit. Thor is probably the dumbest comic book concept next to Ant-Man.
Spider-Man, Iron Man, Batman are fun action movies that were well done, but Apocalypse Now, they ain't. Even Spider-Man is really kinda cheesy once you take the rose-colored glasses off. Batman, hell, didn't we cover how lame and campy the villians in Batman can be in the Dark Knight Rising thread? Iron Man is getting dumb. The third installment is going towards Nick Fury and SHIELD garbage...
There are a few solid comic book heroes (incidentally, you just rang off movies with some of the most solid ones), but the majority of comic book heroes are really stupid. I'm sorry to hurt your feelings, but it's true.
Here take you list of "good" comic book movies and compare it to mountain of bad ones that dwarf it.
If you didn't get that I was ribbing you and if you take anything Alien says with a grain of salt, you're doing it wrong. -wink-

I think Captain America is probably the most difficult superhero to make look...believable...in live action. They've actually done pretty well with it, I think.

Really, the dumbest thing is the lack of camouflage. He's superhuman, so I guess it is okay. Maybe he can get by without.
"Wear this bright blue and red gear and carry a bullseye into battle. It will really inspire the troops and the folks back home." That just seems like a suicide mission in the name of morale to me.

Mystery Men was pretty cheesy but turned out OK (mainly because the actors realized it was cheesy and the plot was intended to be a bit cheesy). I gotta say that I don't want to see this turn into some sort of hacked-up schlockfest that looks like it was meant for SyFy. Cap is one of the cornerstones of the entire Marvel franchise, and if they don't treat him with some respect, I'm gonna be disappointed. And so will millions of other potential moviegoers.

Oh, I get all that. It just seems counter to the mentality for the other soldiers they had in WWII. Why have all the flashy colors and bullseye shield when you CAN do camouflage?

Because then it's not Captain America, the gaudiest and most propaganda-based superhero this side of the Atlantic!

Camo was not well accepted during the war, the army did not use any in Europe. The marines would mostly use their personal camo in the Pacific. The US Army did not adopt Camo until the 1980's.

Saw this on Google images, it seemed appropriate.
Also might have been made from a concept art illustration, by the looks of it.

BTW, I'd like to remind everyone that this could be worse.
Well as pointed out above, he is a propaganda tool... and he was one inside the comic too...
And you can always say that he's meant to draw fire away from the more squishy troops because he can actually wear heavier armour (did you know the Russians wore breastplate that protected them against submachine guns in WW2?)...

It all looks great to me. I have hopes for this movie.
One of them being that they don't gunk it up with a ton of pre-Avengers excess fat like they did to Iron Man 2.

Considering the other two Captain America movies were downright awful, I'd say this looks pretty damn good.
Awww, I want it to be good on its own; not good in comparison.

HYDRA, while the main villains of this film, are going to be a rogue intelligence agency lead by the Red Skull. Love the pictures.
EDIT: Vis-a-vis the character being a propaganda tool...maybe in the early days, and definitely in story. Since his return in the sixties though, Cap has been portrayed as fighting for the ideals the U.S. is meant to stand for (IE, Democracy, a government for the people, and The Bill of Rights) even when it brings him in direct conflict with the government. Civil War is the most recent (and most poorly written) example, but it goes back to 1974 when Cap temporarily became Nomad after finding out Richard Nixon was corrupt. No, not the Watergate scandal...he was a leader of conspiracy called The Secret Empire, but the idea is still the same.

For a time, he was also known as "The Captain" when he resigned from the 'position' of Captain America during the late '80's, also due to conflicts with his superiors.

He flat out went against the governement in Civil War to support a cause he felt was just as well.

That's what I'm saying. Captain America hasn't been a propaganda tool in at least 37 years. Except in the pages of The Ultimates, but Jeph Loeb and Mark Millar are morons. Ironically, it is the latter (who isn't even an American) who writes Cap as the most jingoistic, douchey...and badass.

Covar
I think you are missing the two large straps that are covering his shoulders.
The douchey part yeah, but Ultimate Captain America is the biggest badass in the Ultimate line. Able to take down whole enemy squads by himself, rides motorcycles out of skyscrapers while fighting terrorists and outrunning and explosion, etc. He's a almost a Marty Stu.
Which makes the fact he's a written by a Scotsman somewhat incongruous.

As a Spaniard, I think would probably write Captain America in a very similar way. After all, "Douchey Badass" is a very good description of one of the recurrent stereotypes about americans and america as a nation.
