The Karate Kid - Will (well, Jaden) Smith edition, yo! Actually, I hate to admit it, but...I think it's actually a better movie than the original. Many of the changes they made to the original help things make better sense, the backdrop of China instead of LA makes for many more beautiful scenes, and Jackie Chan actually knows Kung-Fu, which helps the plausibility. Granted, maybe the movie should've been called "The Kung-Fu Kid", but there are tons of obvious throwbacks to the classic. Really, the times the movie was at its worst was when it had to shoehorn things from the old film as a homage. Actually an enjoyable movie, though, and will likely watch again.
Agreed:

Switch: I hate Jennifer Aniston. About the same as Sandra Bullock and that's saying something. So needless to say, I really hated the movie. Story was typical, predictable, and just didn't feel like anyone was trying. Just plain boring.

Buried: Being a big Ryan Reynolds fan, I was looking forward to this. I was sorely dissapointed. I wanted to shut it off within the first 10 minutes. I stomached through hoping for some kind of interesting plot or revelations and got nothing. The ending was even more lame. Seriously wished I had never bothered.

Exit Through the Gift Shop - I tend to stay away from most documentaries except for Nature/Nova ones, but this one was really interesting. I still think that artists are weirdos. This film didn't help that. I really liked what Banksy said at the end of the film about art. Is is a joke? Sometimes, it totally is. Quite entertaining story.

The City of Lost Children: There was a LOT I enjoyed about this movie, from the director's usual hand at cliches, to the wonderful weird ideas, and the way the characters really dig into your heart. At the same time, I wish this could've been a little more focused on the dream-taking plot rather than the history of getting to that situation, OR taken the time to gradually unveil the situation so we aren't waiting for the characters to figure things out. A great movie overall; I just feel there were ways to make it even better. And that's really my own problem in not being able to leave well enough alone rather than any detriment inherent in the movie.

Thank You For Smoking- I think I've already talked about this movie in one of these threads. But, I've been looking for this on DVD for three years and have never been able to find it. I finally found it a few days ago and watched it as soon as I got home. I don't really know what to say about it,except that its hilarious and great. I love it.

I just Rango. It was actually wonderful, I had heard good things, but it certainly exceeded my expectations. And there's a fantastic Apocalypse Now homage in it. I highly recommend it.

Slapshot: billed as a comedy, but with some really well played dramatic undertones, and social commentary. Just wow, the language you could get away with in movies from the '70's.

RANGOOOOO! It was very clever and also really gorgeous visually. I really enjoyed the dream sequence at the end and the way the story kicked off. $5.50 well spent!

Eat, Pray, Love
I stopped paying attention through a lot of the movie... >.> I liked the parts that I watched, but while she was in Italy, I was thinking "doesn't she still have 2 more places to go?" She was in India and I thought the movie would be over soon before I realized she still had another place to visit. @_@ I think I liked it. :p

Just finished watching Tangled. Cute movie, they did a good job of adding to the Rapunzel story, without losing the base. I enjoyed it for a princess movie.

Also bought Hulk vs Thor. Good fight movie, but short on back-story for the characters. If you haven't read any Norse Mythology, Thor or Hulk you'll be a little lost on who people are and what their motivation is.

Defamation, a documentary on anti-Semitism. It covers the ADL, Israel, and the things people believe about Jews and what Jews believe about other people. It's pretty amazing to see on the things Israel tells its citizens and how they view the rest of the world (apparently, we all hate them).

I also just watched Tangled! Loved the animal sidekicks. :)

Battle: Los Angeles. Aliens. Marines. Rah-rah USA. Whoopie. *twirls a finger in the air*

I was alright with that movie until they

SURPRISE SURPRISE, Aliens have one SUPER BIG WEAK POINT that screams SHOOT MISSILE HERE. They might as well have made it Mac compliant.

Interesting. Is it on Netflix?

Yes it is. The film maker talks to the ADL, critics of Israel's policies, and even follows a group of teens who are on a trip from Israel to visit Auschwitz.

Fascinating. Might put it on my list this weekend then. Now that I don't have any schoolwork to do that is :p

Megamind: This, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon, three Dreamworks movies I wish I'd seen in theaters. What happened? They're suddenly making movies I want to watch.

Anyway, this was fantastic. I loved how it dove through so many comic ideas, and
that the true villain was some internet slob given superpowers. I imagine many of those envisioning what they'd be like as Superman would really turn out like Hal.

I'm gonna own this and put it next to The Incredibles.

Except it was pretty clear from the get-go that Hal was only trying to be nice because he wanted to date Roxy. He was always a selfish, creepy liar. It wasn't surprising at all that he turned out to be villainous. Nor was it surprising that Megamind became a hero, when it was also apparent from the beginning that he only turned villainous when he was scorned and no one would give him a chance. Once he had that acceptance, he stopped being a douchebag.

The movie was quite good (All three were, especially Kung Fu Panda) but it was also predictable. I think that's the main difference between Dreamworks and Pixar: Pixar takes chances and surprises it's audience, but Dreamworks does stuff by-the-numbers.

Wristcutters: A Love Story. The music is bizarre and wonderful. Definitely not for those who don't like dark comedies.

Watched Black Swan yesterday and wow... just wow. Damn fine film and Natalie Portman knocked it out of the park. She totally deserved the Oscar for this.

Last King of Scotland: It is one of those movies that I thought I saw, to only realize that I had not. It is such an excellent look at the charisma, buffoonery, and evil that was wrapped up in one of the 20th Century's most notorious tyrants. Forest Whitaker seemed to be born to play that role. He wasn't, but he pulled it off excellently.

The Last Starfighter The little Sci-Fi movie that could. Cheesy greatness, and the SP/FX held up surprisingly well. Especially when you consider it was the first movie to carry that amount of computer generated effects. It was recorded from HDNet movies, it carried their family friendly sticker in the corner through the hole movie.

I wish I got a screenshot of that family friendly sticker there with the 8 year old boy reading Playboy.

Finally got around to watching Inception and I must say that it was an awesome movie! I also watched Tangled and I felt that while it was a bit predictable it was still a very enjoyable movie to watch.

Man, I LOVE that movie. It does hold up pretty well too, which was a nice surprise.

The new Karate Kid. Saw the Nostalgia Critic Old vs. New Review, found the idea interesting... and found the movie in a €5.95 sales bin while doing my weekly walkthrough of the DVD store. Watched it, and despite my earlier scepticism and general tendency to dislike remakes, I actually enjoyed this tremendously. Of course, I'm a Jackie Chan fan, so...
