I swear that the only people that watch his show, is the Liberal/Lame Stream Media just using him for hilarious sound bites/Moments of Zen.

Some interesting links in there. My favorite is the one where he poached a Fox news exec named.....wait for it....."Cheatwood".

Can't make this stuff up folks. One of the top 5 guys at Fox news is named like a Harry Potter villain.

My brother is sad. He finds him entertaining, and a good counter to "the crap liberal media puts out."

I think I'm in the minority but Glenn Beck never bothered me. If you didn't like his message, change the channel. What I find most odd is people like to portray him as an idiot, yet pay an absurd amount attention to him and what his says. You could argue that its for the lulz, but then what does that say about his critics? They're no more than the equivalent to schoolyard children hurling "ur stupid" insults in political discourse?

The fact that people like Glenn Beck exist make me happy, because he can exist, our system allows for diverse opinions and allows those opinions to be expressed. I never liked Olbermann, but I didn't celebrate when his show was cancelled and I certainly didn't expend any energy to demonize him. Whatever you think of Beck, he gets people talking one way or another and I don't think that's a bad thing.

Again, I disagree. I don't find him particularly more far out than a slew of other pundits. It just so happens he is politically distant from some people's views, and therefore more 'crazy'. Tea party people are crazy/racist/stupid, religious people are ignorant/bigoted/crazy/scary, republicans are stupid/crazy/evil geniuses(?!)/rednecks etc.

I AM SEEING PATTERNS.

In the wide world of the political spectrum, Beck is fairly lukewarm.

I'm not sad to see the guy go off the air. These nutjob pundits don't belong on a major news network. Olberman was trying (and failed) to tow the line between Daily Show and legitimate newsman. Beck tried (and succeeded) to tow the line between paranoid schizophrenic homeless man and Dale Gribble of King of the Hill.

I dunno, he had a couple million viewers a night, so that's some measure of success, no?
When he's dropped over a third of his audience by telling them that they need Gold, Guns and God... the success is behind him.

If there was a Left Wing commentator saying that you should arm yourself to fight the next Civil War... they'd be drummed out of town.

Radio does not give you the credibility like having a prime time network show that was the 2nd most viewed on cable.

I wonder if Fox will launch a strait forward John Birch Society Program to fill in for Beck.

Radio's problem is that nowadays everyone can say whatever on it and no one cares (see Beck or Limbaugh)... which is why it's not taken as seriously...
Which would explain why they fired him... they didn;t want to end up like radio....

Those fools! Now he's a martyr. If we strike him down, he will become more batshit crazypants than we could ever imagine!

The problem with radio is that you can say what you want?

Well then, how would you fix radio?

O

Overflight

So is Glen:

I guess the guys at Fox where afraid that he'd start talking about the lizard people soon.
What I want to know is if they're going to auction off that board or just send it straight to the bowels of Warehouse 13 next to the Ark of the Covenant.

The problem with radio is that you can say what you want?
And no one cares, even if it's the stupidest thing ever... freedom of speech doesn't mean no one is allowed to have any standards on the quality of what is put on air.

Yes but thats very subjective and you know it. Who's standards? And what qualifications would they have to determine what is quality enough for 'free speech'?

How about verifiability...

Fair standards aren't impossible you know...

Anyway, the point was that radio isn't taken seriously any more...

Alright then, not taken seriously by whom? A quick google search reveals the following for the top most listened to radio shows:

The Rush Limbaugh Show15+
The Sean Hannity Show12+
The Savage Nation (Michael Savage)9+
Glenn Beck Program9+
The Mark Levin Show8.5+
The Dave Ramsey Show8.5+
The Dr. Laura Program8+
Delilah8+
The Neal Boortz Show6+
The Laura Ingraham Show6+

(in millions of viewers)

So, it's pretty relevant and taken seriously by quite a large number of people. Perhaps the right way to phrase it would be, "it's not taken seriously by those on the other side of the political spectrum", to which I would reply, "Well, duh".

But of course, the somewhat recent stink about NPR funding gives some evidence that enough people think that radio is serious business.

Not to mention non-US broadcasts such as the BBC which nets 30+ million listeners on a daily basis.

Oh c'mon, when was the last time you heard about radio shows having an impact since Howard Stern.

Also note how all those guys happen to already be TV pundits...
