Oh c'mon, when was the last time you heard about radio shows having an impact since Howard Stern.
Um, besides Rush having been in the news with a story he was pushing more or less consistently for the last 20 years?

Also note how all those guys happen to already be TV pundits...
Dude, almost everyone on that list (pretty much except for Laura Ingraham) got their start in radio before their TV careers, and kept their place in radio throughout those careers.

I'm generally on your side re: political stuff, @Li3n, but you're pretty seriously wrong this time.

Rush Limbaugh is a TV political pundit? I didn't realize we were back in the early 90s.

I'd say I was sad to not see Car Talk on that list, but I haven't listened to it in ages, so...

That is his advice to people on his system to get out of debt, and have variety in their meals. So, one day beans and rice... the next rice and beans.

No, for 5 bucks you can eat for nearly a week. He's just trying to tell people how to save $100s... instead of throwing out leftovers or eating in restaurants.

Oh man, let me say, while we aren't doing rice and beans here once we cut out eating out all the time? BAM. Instant money.

Dave Ramsay's advice isn't exactly earth shattering, but some people really need it drilled into their heads. If you're in debt, and you want to get out of debt, a big part of getting out is going to involve spending as little as possible.

And i'm sure a lot of musicians started playing in their garage, doesn't make garage's MTV.

Well the influence of radio right now isn't a political subject anyway...

But i guess i should not be saying that radio doesn't matter at all any more, just that it's not as influential as TV etc...

He's been saying MJF has been faking his symptoms for before the got Parkinsons? Or was there something else i missed?

Rush just insinuated that MJF was overplaying/exaggerating his symptoms to garner sympathy during a prime time interview. And people still listens to what he has to say.

It wasn't even that he just insinuated he exaggerated his symptoms; He physically mocked the guy for shaking.

Rush is despicable because he can't attack the problem, but has to attack the person or people involved. There is never any substance in his 'comedy' (which is what he hides behind to keep from being sued for slander).

That seems to be the basis for almost every political comedian, ever.

It is, and on the surface most of the criticism of Rush is tainted by the fact that most people love comedy that mocks others. The problem is, Rush, despite being classified as an "entertainer" is really just another pundit so that kind of stuff doesn't come off as "comedy" but mean spirited and not in any way conducive to discussion between those with differing ideologies.

And then Rush had the audacity to claim that the video showing Rush physically shaking in the studiowasn't 'mockery'. F'ing douchebag. If you're going to be an asshole, at least own up to it.

Which is what most comedians do, only furthering the difference between him and them.

And there's the difference... he didn't bother with insinuation on the radio.

Start here, and make a checkmark for every story that you're even anecdotally sure has hit the TV news. And that's just the last 5 years.
I meant less about it hitting a TV station or being mocked on Stewart/Colbert and actually having some sort of impact (like Beck's more and more exaggerated ranting did on him)...

But if it didn't have impact, why the stink over it? Why even consider a "fairness doctrine" if nobody cares or takes it seriously?

As i recall my original point was that the lack of one is proof that no one cares... then you said the lack of a "fairness doctrine" (obviously you didn't interpret it as such at the time) is not a problem... etc.

So i don't understand the question... i never said there should be one for radio any more then there should be more done to save print media... at this point is just a question of dying with dignity really...
