[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

I disagree Adammon. Buckley has actually started listening to criticism and his comics show dramatic improvement for it.

It's still no Penny Arcade but I do find them to be at least smile worthy.

I would post the last month of PVP against CAD but it'd be too time cosuming and it all falls to opinion. Mine is just that PVP hasn't been funny for a long time where as CAD gets funnier as time goes on. Most everything after the "miscarriage" arc has been more about humor and less about "character drama". Hell there isn't even the usual half-funny plotlines, now it's more like consistant one-shot funny comics with a thin line of connectivity.

I will pit Scott's last non-Game of Thrown comic against Buckley's last comic any day:

vs

At least The Tastemaker is original. Buckley's jokes are recycled nonsense. But maybe that's why people like them, they're easy and have already been told several times.

I mean, Buckley is hilarious!

Derp derp derp as a punchline! Hilarious!

Haha, Duke Nukem Forever stinks! Hahaha, hilarious!

I'm not saying that Buckley isn't funny. It's just that your taste in humour sucks.

The argument with Kurtz continues.

My tweet:"I have to respect the sheer mind-boggling audacity of @pvponline for *telling* people that last week's comics were "HI-LARIOUS". Just Wow."

PVPOnline: "They weren't oliver fucking swift but they were fun to draw and people liked them. You got a real hair up yer anus."

Me: "@pvponline As opposed to you going with your entire head. People know if what they experienced was funny or not regardless of what you say."

PVPOnline: "Show me where I insisted they were funny. The only thing that's funny to me is how bitter you sound right now."

So, should I link him to http://www.pvponline.com ?

Me: @pvponline "You should know two things: 1) The strips were…HI-LARIOUS!" - did someone else post to your blog on PVPonline.com?

No idea what he meant by that - either Oliver Twist, which wasn't exactly funny, unless the exploitation of urban orphans, alcoholism, and domestic violence give you a chuckle; or Jonathan Swift, the master of satire.

Note: These posts are opinions of the individual posters and are not necessarily those of Halforums, its management or readers. Please, please, PLEASE! If you get into a flame war over this don't mention HF.

This just in:

PVPOnline: "OMG. If you were really a writer like you claim you would recognize self deprecating hyperbole when you read it." - self-deprecating hyperbole?

Me: "So if you were being sarcastic by calling your own work "hilarious", then wouldn't you be agreeing that it wasn't that funny?"

It's kind of sad he can't just say, "Yeah, they weren't as funny as I'd hope. I'll have to do better." Instead he responds by arguing that "No, they were IN FACT funny", "You just don't get it" and "you don't know what you're talking about", while making up terms.

Final shot goes to Kurtz. Sorry, man, but he teed one up on you!

@CroweLonginus I certainly have nothing to prove to some bitter rpg writer taking shots at a cartoonist.

He doesn't have to take this, he's better than you! defense, always a wonder.

My response: "You really like making personal attacks. I just didn't think the week was funny and was pretty ham-fisted with the GoT references"

And now it's PVPOnline: "Wow. It's not a lot but the negative feedback over last weeks GoT strips is vehement and baffling to me. I thought they were fun. #ohwell"

Yeah, no. Again. For us unfunny as the past week has been, he's still leaps and bounds beyond Buckley.
I disagree. I think Kurtz has lost his spark. It's not only the past week that's been unfunny. Look at that retro LOLBat story he posted. Awful. The regular PvP stuff is hit or miss, with "miss" coming about more often than "hit". Buckley's artwork might not be on the same level as Kurtz, but overall I think CAD has gotten better as a comic where PvP is circling the bowl.

I think they're both horrendous writers but PvP has better art. So, in the realm of the blind, the cross eyed man is king (paraphrase).

You know those people who come into this thread and tell everyone they sound like bitter ex's and they need to get over it? That's what I feel like right now. It just seems like we are beating a dead horse. I understand the criticism but after 28 pages it gets a little tiresome. Scott, just like any other cartoonist (excluding Bill Watterson) has up and down weeks. I couldn't imagine having to come up with a new strip five days a week for over 10 years. When Scott hits it, it soars out of the park.
And in regards to his post that the strips are hilarious how could you not think he was joking. I caught that immediately.
