A brand new* Mary Jane figurine has feminists and people of good taste in general saying 'Aw HAIL naw' with its highly suggestive and possibly bangin' pose. As the article says:

Not surprisingly, bloggers everywhere are all up in arms over this trashy, yet smokin' hot version of Mary Jane. Hughes hilariously describes his creation as "Mary Jane discover[ing] that her superhero husband has slipped some of his laundry into the mix, but she's not looking too displeased about Peter's naughty little transgression." Funnily enough, all the outrage has done nothing by spark a feeding frenzy; the statue (which is available through the Collectibles web site) has already sold out, with a waiting list recently added. Now here's where I get to tell you what I think. First off, who cares? The majority of folks who actually buy these statues are geeked-out males (or fanboys) who like to steal a peak at their purchase while surfing for the latest Star Trek fan art. (And based on some of the fan art I've seen, this statue is quite tame). I see nothing wrong with it; she's not naked, she's not revealing too much (unlike a certain "rain scene" from one of the films) and, quite simply, she looks good. Thoughts?
What the article doesn't mention, however, is the systematic sexualizing of the comic book industry of all its heroes. You may raise your ire over smexy Mary Jane, or comic book covers featuring tentacle-related shenanigans, or even Wonder Woman's penchant for roping things (not to mention getting roped!), but what of the Submariner? Huh? Have you, in fact, ever taken a good damn look at a Submariner cover? Eh? In the event that you need reminding of what a sexually-charged, scandalous fellow that Namor fellow is, take a gander at yon pics:

Fucksake! In this pic, he's nuder'n Invisible Girl! I mean, GATdamn.
(You might say he's a bit more ... visible :csi:)

In other news, RIP PVP Image Forum.

In honor of the deceased, I would like to have a moment of silence before the bagpipes send it off.

That statue isn't exactly new.
I know. ;)

To those who weren't there at the time, 'Mary Jane, the Other White Meat' was the title of a hojillion-page thread on Image in which JCM battled it out with others over the sexualization of female vs. male comic characters, arguing that it wasn't completely one-sided.

This is my roundabout, silly way of saying goodbye to the PVP Image Forums, which until very, very recently still existed (in a grave-yard state, but people still posted once in a while as a joke, myself included).

And you know what? We were STILL busier than most of the Image sub boards. I mean shit! Look at their stats!

Total posts 4619 • Total topics 191 • Total members 211

Shit, man! We get more than that per day! That's their whole board!

besides being a kind of asinine tableau i dont get what the problem is.

Also i like golem-esque guys and I dont think the sub-mariner covers are remotely sexy

Haha, the first thing I thought was "Gollum-esque." And I was thinking, "skinny, barely any hair, insane, cowering posture?"

That's a fantastic position if I have to say so myself. Should have been wearing a skirt and heels though because that's how ALL women should be wearing while doing laundry.
