Go Ape!

As a Planet of the Apes fan from way back, I'm definitely looking forward to Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The "Man engineered their own destruction" angle makes a lot more sense than the circular "Caesar's parents came from the future".

And as far as I can tell, it's not in 3D. And that's all I've got to say about that.

Discuss.

I don't like the way a lot of the apes look in previews. However, I do think that the story looks interesting. I probably will not catch it in theatres, because I'm almost at my "seeing movies in theatres" limit for the month. I'll probably get it at the Redbox in a few months.

It's getting too realistic looking for me.

(im scared of monkeys >.> <.<)

I'm going opening night and I can tell you that that almost never happens. I psyched about this film, have been since first announcement.

Interesting review, Overflight! I hadn't wanted to see it but now I just might.

The more I see of the trailers the more I like.

This is the trailer that got me really psyched for it. On the one hand it does, in my opinion, break a cardinal rule of trailers in revealing too much. On the other hand though it's Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I kind of know how this is all going to play out anyway, so it's forgivable in this instance.

I just went to see this movie and it is hands down the best movie I've seen this summer. It's sad when a CGI character that has 3 lines in the entire movie has more character development than 90% of the characters in the current movies out.

I just find it amusing to think what it'd have been like if Caesar had been a Bonobo instead of a Chimpanzee.

It is the best movie of the summer, by far. It was amazing.
I agree with this statement. This movie could have easily become cheesy but they managed to avoid those pitfalls (although I was expecting the apes to grab machine guns on the bridge and thankfully they didn't). CGI was incredible and story was tight. Great movie.

Very enjoyable movie, we watched the original Planet of the Apes right afterwards as a bookend (It hasn't aged well, Charlton Heston laughs like a horse...)

The CGI was remarkably uneven. Very good in some places, almost plastic in others. Overall, we look forward to the next chapter and really, that's what a good story should do.

If you're a sci-fi fan at all, do yourself a favour and check this out. I'll agree that the CGI at some very rare times was uneven, but most of it is incredibly solid.

What I liked most about it is two things:

1) It didn't demonize science or the scientific reasoning behind what happened. In fact, Franco's character has a great storyarc that, in many ways, mirrors Caesar.

2) It didn't demonize the apes, either. In fact, a vast majority of the movie is from their point of view. And it's great. Some of the best scenes involve interaction between said apes. There are several characters and relationships that develop among them and it all winds up being very interesting.

Two big geeky thumbs up. I haven't said this of many movies, but I'll be buying the BluRay of this bad boy when it comes out.

Saw it. I thought it was very good, but I wanted to see what was going to happen next rather than the end credits. I hope they make a sequel to this that isn't a Planet of the Apes remake; something continuing what happens with the apes.

A sequel has already been greenlit. Think I heard it was going to be more of the war between man and ape. :D

EDIT: Wait, sorry. I stand corrected. The news has been of the director with ideas for sequels.

I was hoping that they wouldn't make a sequel. The Charlton Heston movie is iconic and the twist ending could never be repeated. I thought Rise was fantastic. I don't think a sequel would do anything but be a poor excuse to make money. Of course Hollywood will do another movie. I hope it's as great as Rise and not on the same level as the Tim Burton movie.

I mean a sequel that is not Planet of the Apes; a sequel that is directly following the events of Rise, with just enough time passing for the apes to start a take-over. I wanna see that happen, not just assume it happens; they showed it in the original series' Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.
