Pre-loaded all 21GB of this from Steam Sunday night. Can't wait to play it as soon as I find some free time.

Anyone else looking forward to Carmack's latest creation?

I definitely want to check it out. Carmack has provided me hours upon hours of FPS goodness in the past. I hope he can do it again.

ID is kind of like those movies you loved as a kid. They haven't withstood the test of time that well, but for nostalgia sake alone you still have to given them your patronage.

This isn't to say that ID isn't still technologically impressive, my guess is that this will be another astounding engine. Its because of that that they may be the single most influential game developer of all time.

....maybe its not like buying the old movie you liked as a kid, maybe its like going to see a Scorcese film. You know that he hasn't been as good as he was back in the old days, but you still have to respect him. Or maybe its like Ingmar Bergman. You know that even if you don't like it at face value, your supposed to like it for technical reasons.

First Bananahands "ALL MY RAGE" thread and now this! dont put Rage in the title if there isnt anything worth raging about.Halforum, you disapoint me.

Oh believe me, from what I read, once PC gamers start playing Rage, there's probably gonna be some rage in here.

It'll be an average game on a great engine, and everyone will say hohum on the game, but just wait and see what good developers can do with the engine!

And then developers will all still use the unreal engine instead.

It's hard to beat the entrance cost to using unreal as your engine. That being, no money up front, just 25% off the top of your profits beyond $5000. That's a plan many a startup can afford.

Well, I 'procured' a copy of the game to see how mucky it was.

Glad I didn't buy it.

Fuck you John Carmack.

I have very few tears (happens when turning around to fast), and the game runs smoothly for me. The game is absolutely gorgeous, runs smooth and is pretty fun.

You don't have texture pop-in?

I have two GD 6950s (apparently this game really fucking hates AMD cards) and not only does it not work in Crossfire but it freezes every 2-3 seconds. The texture pop-in is insane.

Apparently the AMD Rage performance drivers that were put out yesterday are crap and some new ones that don't cause these issues in "SOME" machines will supposedly get fixed.

How little Id gave a shit about the PC version.

These are the ONLY video options available

- Resolution
- Fullscreen
- Anti-Aliasing
- Brightness

That's fucking it.

I guess the texture pop-in is there for all versions of the game. IdTech 5 seems like a piece of shit.

I'm getting texture pop on the ps3 version. It feels like a first person shooter stuffed into a racer engine, which kind of explains the pop in. There is none while driving but it's all over while roaming on foot.

I've gotten some pop-in/tears on the bottom corners of my screen if I turn around real quick, but it's pretty minor and not consistent. I'm running it with a GTX 460 with 4x AA and it handles like a champ. Biggest examples of consolitis are on in the menus where the mouse is just fucked up. Frankly the entire menu system just sucks.

This was on youtube, but this is literally what the game looks like to me.

Bethesda and Id have some fucking balls charging 10 dollars more than than the usual 50 dollar PC price for this fucking garbage.

It's $49.99 for all platforms at my store. Still not worth that for a broken, unfinished game though.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun posted a fair review of the game. You can read it here.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts as well (although how awesome would a Fallout game be running on Id Tech 5?). I continue to play, continue to have fun, and continue to be glad I went with nvidia.

IdTech 5 is God awful. Fuck, the first paragraph of that review is fucking telling. He lost an entire day to tweaking and had to buy an entirely new video card to play the game. How the hell is this new one any good? It looks great, as long as you NEVER look side to side.

Well, lets see. You have a brand new state of the art graphics engine that has never seen the light of day before. You're running AMD, in xfire.

And it has bugs.

And you're surprised?

Almost certainly, since all the reported problems are with the video card drivers deciding to dump the megatextures out of VRAM before they're done being used.

*shrug* I apparently have the same machine as QA people at Id because I've been enjoying the hell out of it.
