My brother introduced me to this comic a number of years ago, and when I read it I was a bit underwhelmed. It was *ok*, but I didn't like the art and I thought that the panneling was terribly done (never knew when to read across the two pages or just on one).

That said I picked it up again out of boredome sometime last year (I owned like the first 10 trades) and read through it again, and enjoyed it much much more. The panneling still makes me want to tear my hear out some time though.

Anyways, turns out a pilot has been green-lit and taped for FX, should air in '12 sometime. Looking forward to it.

Any other fans out there?

Yes, although I've only read the trades my brother has, which is only the first 6 or 7, I think, at most. Would love to read the rest.

Its one of those series that really does get better/deeper without sacrificing much as time goes on, something few manage to do.

As an aside here's who is set up as the cast for the show:

Walker: Jason Patrick (dunno about that choice)

Deena Pilgrim: Lucy Punch (have no real idea who she is)

Captain Cross: Charles Dunton (love this guy but it will be weird to see him playing captain cross, who isn't exactly a 'hardass' which is exactly what I would expect from Dunton.

Retro Girl: Carry Foulkes (who...isn't blonde)

Director: Micheal Dinner (nothing spectacular on his resume, did some wonder years stuff)

Writer: Charles Eglee (Credits. as a producer and occasional writer include Walking Dead, the Shield, and Dexter, so yeah that dude is pretty top notch.)

------------

A lot of those choices bother me, a lot, but the writer seems to be a really good choice, so we'll see.

I loved the series at first but lost interest after awhile. Borrowed a good chunk of the series (up until the first trade of the ICON relaunch). My beef with the series was that Bendis does great characterization...but terrible endings. They're almost always unsatisfying.

Anyway, I have a feeling the series will be quite good and I'll certainly give it a try.

Stopped reading sometime in the beginning of the Icon stuff. Not because I disliked it, but because at that point I had caught up with the issues, and it's one of the series that got pushed to the back of BMB's priority list.

Walker: Jason Patrick (dunno about that choice)
If he plays it kind of like his bit in Narc, that would be perfect, IMO.

Deena Pilgrim: Lucy Punch (have no real idea who she is)
I...would not have guessed this for Deena, but I only ever saw her in Hot Fuzz (and the "play" scene she was in had me in tears, it was so fucking funny)

Retro Girl: Carry Foulkes (who...isn't blonde)
True, but the smile really works, and for Retro Girl, I kind of think that's more important. Who knows if she has any real acting chops, but it's pretty key that we don't really get any characterization of RG until much much later; for 99% of her appearances, it's really only about how the public sees her and what little Walker hints at.

Other parts:

Zora: Alona Tal. Huh, I dunno, I've only seen her in high-school/teen roles, so I guess we'll see. She was good in Veronica Mars, but her being Zora is going to depend a lot on her ability to act much older than she looks.

Johnny Royalle: Vinnie Jones. I would not have thought this at all, but VJ is almost always a pleasure to watch, so I'm good with this.

Calista: Bailee Madison. Don't follow child stars, so I couldn't guess.

Triphammer: Titus Welliver. Perfect. Couldn't have chosen better, IMO.

Oh, Carly Foulkes is the T-Mobile girl. I had to look that up. She's an actual actor? Either way, she's incredibly attractive.

Vinnie Jones is Johnny Royale?

Yeah I'm sorry that makes absolutely no sense. The whole point of his character is not that he's some brawler or badass. He can teleport, sure, but aside from that he' s a pretty small/scrawny guy. Its not his physical power/stature that makes him a player, it's his ability to play.

They really missed the boat on that one.
