[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

I haven't seen 9 yet, tonight probably. :)

I also watched Neverending Story the other day for the first time in probably 17 years.

That movie is so weird.

Oh man, The Neverending Story is one of my top 5 all time favorite movies. I've watched the crap out of that movie.

Watched 9 and thought it was good. As far as post-apocalyptical charm goes, I liked it more than Fallout 3 but not as much as Wall-E.

Paranormal Activity 3: I'm with Spoony; that was the best of them. The further we get from any presence by Micah, the better (although the mom's boyfriend/camera guy in this one looked eerily similar to Micah at first...). What's funny though, the demon gets stronger with each movie, which means he's getting weaker chronologically.

But some really cool shit happened in this film and made the ho-hum storyline of the films far more interesting than it was.

I really enjoyed 9 when I watched it, but I will admit it wasn't fantastic. Absolutely gorgeous visuals and a really good idea. The execution of said idea and story, on the other hand, was really lacking.

Tonight, I went to see Puss in Boots. And it was a lot of fun. They harkened back to a lot of the spaghetti/Mexican westerns, which I honestly wished they'd stuck with a little more. If they'd just stuck with the heist aspect of the story, it would've been much better. The more fantastical stuff felt a little forced in comparison.

Still, I can't deny that it was a lot of fun. It honestly felt more focused than the last couple of Shrek movies (and that's coming from someone that liked the fourth one). A lot of people pretty much saw Puss being able to carry a movie on his own right from the beginning and this movie more than proved it. I'd be down for a sequel for this. Heck, let's rip off Fistful of Dollars and put Puss in the Man With No Name's place. There hasn't been a good Seven Samurai/Fistful-esque movie in a long while.

Did it take an hour before anything remotely interesting happened? Because that's been my experience with these movies.

They're theatrical reality tv.

I disagree on that with the first movie, but the second movie takes 40 minutes (was checking the clock).

This one, it's about 10 minutes or so (couldn't time exactly in the theater, but crazy shit happens by Night #1 with an earthquake). The creepy little girl carries things better than Micah or the baby in the other movies.

Super Troopers
I loved it when they ate the weed.

Friday the Thirteenth Part III
I loved it when they ate the weed.

The Mist
My brother was like 'Wanna watch The Mist?' and I was like, 'Wassat again?' To which he was like, 'Based on a King novella,' so I was like, 'Cool.'

Now take note, we had just watched the latest episode of The Walking Dead. So it seemed like an odd coincidence when one of the cast showed up ... then another, and still another. That's when I remembered Frank Darabont directed a movie based on a King story. :/

Impressions: It was scary how Walking Dead-ish this movie seemed. The cast, the father-son dynamic, the whole thing ultimately being more about the horrors of humans against one another as opposed to the horrors they faced ... the ball was hella dropped in a couple of ways, though.

1) The CGI. Oh god, the CGI. I haven't seen CGI that shitty in a while. And not only that, they showed it early
(starting with tentacles, the worst-looking of the lot)
and often, sometimes in bright light. Some of the shots did work, but a great deal of them were quite frankly embarrassing. It was sad, really, especially given some of the potential of this film. I can only hope that Darabont thought the effects would look better when finished, because if he knew they were going to look like that, they could've been used much more strategically.
2) Reaction times.
In the pharmacy, in the car. They should've been tearing out like fucking crazy!
3) The ending.
I'm generally in favor of dark endings, but this one just didn't work for me. They'd already come through so much shit. Sure they didn't want to end up like the others, bugs spilling out (Alien ripoff style), but to kill your own child (and when his eyes were flickering open) ... maybe it was because I just saw Rick Grimes speechify at his wife on the subject of keeping hope alive, but I didn't buy it.

Watched Tangled the other day. It was a damn good movie. I've watched it a couple times again. Fantastic.

As about 9. I generally liked it, but I did roll my eyes with the whole
You rule by fear, priest-looking man! HAHA TAKE THAT CHURCH
, but maybe I'm reading into it too much.

I didn't even really take note of that, really. I thought of it more as a
look how I'm using tragedy and suffering to make myself your de facto king
kinda thing.

In Time should have been called This Movie Is Not Subtly About Current World Issues, Not Subtle In Any Way.

I've never watched such a nifty idea get trampled by it's extraordinarily heavy handed preachiness to such a degree before. We fucking get it guys, rich people have more than poor people.

Ahh, that bum's me out. I was looking forward to this movie so much! The idea is simply brilliant. I may still go see it, and maybe with some lower expectations, I may still enjoy it some.

Bronson

Fuckin' hilarious movie. Refn rules, Tom Hardy rules, end of story.

Big Fish

It'd been a while since I saw it last, but it's still a great film.

Immortals

Once I just settled on the writing and dialog being about the level of the worst I had an ok time watching it. The God fights were really the highlight. Almost beautiful violence. Probably the director's worst film. I would much rather watch The Fall or The Cell over Immortals.

Saw Thor, liked it, good origin story for the big Nord. Looking forward to Avengers because it will mean more Loki.

Then we watched Green Lantern and meh. So with the exception of Nolan Batman movies, DC hero movies bite.

Marvel for teh win!

I've literally stopped talking to a woman, on the spot, deep into conversation or possibly after heavy petting/making out the moment she mentioned she enjoyed Twilight.

I can't fathom living with them.

Watched Tron: Legacy again tonight with the kids. I really enjoy that movie, and the music is fantastic. Maybe I'll hint to my wife to get me the soundtrack for christmas...
I have the soundtrack. It is TOTALLY worth having. Great stuff.

Just watched the newest twilight movie. The seats were as comfy as usual at that movie theater. The projection was bright enough. There was sound.

Have I told you that I love my wife? Very much.

Yes, yes, very much.
I hope she baked you a pie or something afterwards.

We just downloaded and watched the previous 3 Twilights movies.. with Rifftrax. The movies themselves were unbearable made only passingly entertaining by the addition of the Rifftrax. I can understand the animosity towards them.

"Okay, Taylor, in this scene, your character is feeling heartbreak, betrayal, and loss, right? So, just stand there, and look vaguely confused by the sounds coming out of other people's faces. Now, Kristen, this is the scene where you realize you're carrying an unholy vampire baby, despite the fact that your boyfriend told you he was sterile, because he's a walking corpse. Can you to go through this scene with a look of mildly annoyed surprise? You know, like you just opened a birthday gift and it's an ugly sweater from your sweet old grandmother. Great. Okay, Rob, just look stunned and disgusted that you're even here doing this. Perfect. Rolling!"

The Muppets

This is copy/pasted from The Muppets thread but it absolutely Fozzy bears repeating.

I was giggling through the whole thing with pure, child-like glee. They captured The Muppets perfectly, including the story structure of the movies (yet managing to do their own thing even with winks and references).

There was even one point I was openly weeping, right when...oop, hang on. Lemme spoiler tag this..

When the curtains opened and Kermit started strumming "Rainbow Connection" on his banjo.

Seriously, I say this with every genuine bit of my heart (which, for those of you that know me by now, is all of my heart)...GO. SEE. THIS. MOVIE. If you had any doubts about it, clear them. If you have high expectations, keep them. If, for some crazy reason, you had no plans on seeing it...GO. SEE IT. Please.

I'm going to see it again this weekend while I'm in New Brunswick visiting friends and family.
