It's a sad day in the Internet Entertainment World...

I've removed Spoony from my daily "Web-blogger/funny-man" bookmarks. What the hell happened? I miss the days of S.W.A.T. and Phantasmagoria playthroughs. Now it's just boring self-blogs that lack all the charm and hilarity of his previous style of recording. He's also seemed to stop caring about any kind of self-hygine, he looks more and more homeless by the day. It's a shame because he was easily my favorite internet celeb.

On a bright note, I've found someone that far outshines him, even in his prime. Jesse Cox of OMFGaming. Seriously, look up his Terraria videos with TotalBiscuit or his L4D2 playthroughs with 3 hot gamer girls. Jesse delivers, and to top it off, he puts out 5-6 videos PER week. He's just fantastic.

Let's see, he's done a couple cameo bits, but looks like the last thing he did himself was Dead or Alive on September 24. Yeesh. And a lot of Counter Monkey stuff (whatever that is) and playing with the dog.

That said, I've watched his movie review vlogs because one was a good reccomendation and the other (The Thing) was hilarious. He's been dealing with a lot of doctors stuff and health issues lately, though I have to wonder if he's getting any sleep. I recall this happened last year. Hopefully he'll get back to proper videos soon. I'm still waiting for the conclusion to Final Fantasy X-2. Those videos were great back in summer.

@ Jay -

He's also been doing WoW videos weekly since the release of Cata Beta. Played some RIFT too.

See that's just it, he stopped doing what I found entertaining. Video Game playthroughs/bashing. I have no interest in his movie reviews because I find them mostly dull and not very well thought out. There are better movie reviewers on TGWTG channels anyway.

In the last few months, I've become a HUGE fan of TGWTG. I used to only watch the NCritic and NChick, but now a whole new world of awesome has opened up to me. I kind of have a crush on Phaelus.

Also, Diamanda Hagen is freakin awesome.

I still love Spoony. I hope he figures out his health issues. According to twitter he's been beating his head up against a wall trying to figure them out and I can REALLY sympathize with that. Also, his break up earlier in the year has noticeably effected him. He sounds a bit more bitter towards women then before.

Like Bowielee I'm still enjoying everyone on TGWTG. I'm find that Phelous is going a little down hill but I still love the dude.

For those who haven't, give a try to the Rap Critic at TGWTG. He's a friend of mine at college and I just want to spread the word.

You and I have very different tastes. I cannot stand Hagan. I think it's because she reminds me of a friend from high school, only twisted so that only the bad parts of her personality show. I have not been able to make it through a single episode.

As for Phelous... I dunno. He's got some pretty good criticism, but I don't like his style. Something about his pacing puts me off. It doesn't help that I don't generally like horror movies, either. His girlfriend is pretty awesome, though...

Obscurus Lupa is my favorite reviewer on the site. Even though her humor isn't 100% to my taste, her jokes land often enough to keep me very entertained. I like that she's not afraid to enjoy the movies she reviews, and doesn't feel the need to be completely negative just for the sake of schtick. She's also a genuinely nice person, from my limited interaction with her. (Heh, I first posted about her on Halforums 1½ years ago, today. Guess I saw past the red hair. :D To be totally hipster: I followed Lupa before she was hired by TGWTG!)

I'm also loving the Fruits Basket radio drama from JesuOtaku. This is exceedingly well cast and edited. I'm enjoying it immensely, and I've never even heard of Fruits Basket before starting in. I don't always watch JO's other stuff, but when I do I really enjoy it. She's got some sharp insight on anime, and she's cute as a button (even when she's giving her "I will murder you" look). I want her to be my little sister.

I watch a ton of other stuff, but other favorites of mine are Pushing Up Roses, Paw, Brows Held High and WTFIWWY
EDIT: Almost forgot Familiar Faces

This is my take on it as well. Right now he's focusing most of his time on his health and getting his new puppy trained. I'm totally okay with waiting a bit for his stuff.

Besides, I enjoy the Counter Monkey videos.

What the hell is Counter Monkey?
Counter Monkey is Spoony recounting stories from his days of working at a gaming store and his experiences as a DM. Apparently most of it is from a book he never quite finished writing. It's entertaining, if your into that scene. The one about Shadowrun and the Squirtgun Wars was hilarious.

He's been doing them lately because they are quick and easy, while he intermittently works on his next big review (I think it's him finishing up FFX-2 or possibly one last fighting game movie). Like we've been saying, he's currently trying to take care of his health and he's apologized for the delay several times. I'm sure he'll get back to a more regular schedule once this is all resolved. In the mean time, it's more Counter Monkey, movie Vblogs, and tons and tons of cameos.

At least he's not LordKat, who stopped doing the only thing on his site that was entertaining (and the thing that got him on TGWTG in the first place) because he didn't "like editing". Spoony has an actual reason to be slow.

Damn you, Piotyr! Thanks to your comment about Paw's KQ retrospectives, I'm already halfway through the videos.

*sob* I miss Sierra games.

Ok, the latest Counter Monkey "Spoony's Jyhad"? AWESOME.
It was a good build-up, but it would've been more awesome if

he'd done it in front of the room, just been willing to off himself. Then he would've put the DM's integrity on the spot in front of the 30 people and let them sort it out, rather than just showing off out-smarting them with just the DM and the door guy.

Had I been one of them, I'd have supported Spoony's ability to do that, said that the DM should let it go, and then get pissed at the door guy for failing to check for weapons like he was supposed to.

Doing it in the middle of the room would have given people the chance to stop it, by ether Dominating him into submission or perhaps Celerity to grab the detonator from him before it went off. By doing it this way he was hoping to get them all without an chance to survive.

What he should have done is only put in enough Symtex to scare the crap out of everyone and make it look like it was done by the Invictus. He could have sparked a war that would have destroyed both sides so he'd come out on top.

I've actually done something similar... though I pulled it off because no one died and the storyteller (who owned the Bar) thought it would shock some sense into the other players, who were being REALLY stupid. Basically I put a brick of C4 in the sink of the bar after distracting everyone with some of my bravado (actually dropping it in mid-dialog). It wasn't enough to level the bar, but it was plenty enough to ignite the dozens of bottles alcohol, which sent shards of glass and fire everywhere. After dropping it in the sink, I did some more RP to keep everyone's eyes on me then left... detonating it after I was about a block away. The best part? Someone finally noticed it, after walking behind the bar to get some "blood"... at the moment I was detonating it. Fortitude is a hell of a skill.

The fallout of that was that my character became the sole target of the Cammies, having injured some of their players, but it was worth it for that one shining moment of triumph.[/spoilers]

P

Philosopher B.

He should spend less time talking about wrestling and more being awesome

actually I don't know if he still does that

I'd go to the wrestlewrestle site and see but then I could also watch paint dry

Quick show of hands, who can't stand Angry Joe?

*raises hand*

Yeah, I really can't stand him, plus his reviews are often way off the mark. He gives positive reviews to virtually everything.

I for some reason love JewWario, though.

I like watching him eat candy.

I'm neutral on Joe. I don't watch his videos, but I don't hate him either. His reviews seem pretty shallow to me. If I want shallow I want quick text I can skim quickly and be on my way.

I really like Angry Joe, I like the fact he is positive with games giving them a chance before outright dismissing them. He brings with his reviews a sort of enthusiasm that is rare, most reviewers just review either in a negative or monotone way that does not get you interested at all. I picked up a few games I probably would have passed if not for his reviews.

Still when it comes to TGWTG, I always check out NCritic, NChick, Phelous, Film Brain, Linkara, OLupa, and sometimes CSnob, though his posting are rather rare these days. Has PAW really gotten good? I used to watch some of his older stuff and it bored me to death, so I stopped visiting his videos.

P.S. As for Spoony, I still watch his videos, but only when he actually posts a review. I avoid his blog posts, because they are often 30-40 minutes of him (or him and his brother) rambling.

Like I said, I really enjoyed his KQ retrospective, and his Music Movie reviews are fantastic reviews of musicals (I think he posts them every other week). His only rule for something to count as a music movie is that it has to have at least 4 musical numbers during the movie.

Spoony's Counter Monkey has got me looking into buying an RPG corebook and trying to get something going with my friends. Admittedly, it is the Smallville RPG but fuck you it sounds like a good starting point.

Vis-a-vis Spoony's shift in focus...the movie reviews are easier. To do a good game review, you seem to have to put some serious time into playing the thing, recording your play through, and then pulling clips from that footage. I can see where movie reviews would be preferable. Between that and a heart condition, the description of which I found utterly terrifying when he spoke about it for the first time, I think it isn't too big of a deal for him to take some time on less stressful projects.

I watch Nostalgia Critic, Lupa, Linkara, and (when applicable) Spoony every week. Usually when I do laundry, if for no other reason than it is some free time. I do tend to skip Linkara's stuff when I know he's going to be on a storyline tear...I just shotgun that stuff later.

I'd add Jew Wario to that list. He's not the biggest name on the site, but he definitely knows his stuff and goes out of his way to show people how to play the games he suggests. I really hope he does a Yanki J Plays of Corpse Party or La-Mulana though...

I only recently started watching Paw's Music Movie reviews, I caught them just as he was starting them and have been hooked ever since. So far, I've liked them all, though to be fair, I've seen all but 1 or two of the musicals that he's reviewed.

For the most part Ncritic & NChick are the ones I usually watch, TBH I've never been able to really get into either Spoony or Lupa's work. I may have to revisit Lupa though.

To be honest, I find I just don't have the patience for a lot of TGWTG's videos. I compare them with weekly video series I do enjoy (Yahtzee and MovieBob), where they edit things down to a watchable five or six minutes. Even ten minutes would make a lot of TGWTG.com's videos watchable, but the majority of them are between fifteen and twenty minutes. NChick's gotten much better since she changed her manner of reviews and made them critiques instead of recaps. NCritic began his whole video reviews roughly around ten minutes, but now they're 15+. As Yahtzee, MovieBob and ExtraCredits prove: less is more.

Spoony, though, I just can't stand except for his fully scripted and edited reviews, which are usually around the ten minute mark. His WrestleWrestle crap and movie reviews went on far too long. I have the same problem with Linkara, who feels the need to make his videos at minimum 20 minutes. If he's doing some stupid storyline, I'll either skim through the video (skipping the "story" crap) or not bother with it at all.

I honestly last faith with MovieBob when his GameOverthinker stuff became part of Screw Attack's Advantage program... meaning I have to wait an extra week to view it unless I give them money. It was bad enough he was doing storyline crap that was just... awful. I actually like Linkara's stories but MovieBob's stuff is just awful.

I LOVE Linkara's story videos. He has a flair for writing. I love his reviews but alot of the times I'm just waiting to see what he does next. :)

Yeah, 8 months ago was back in February... so yeah, that would be around the time of the break-up. He's never been all that healthy, so the break-up is definitely what put him over the edge.
