[Gaming] Elder Scrolls 5 - Dawnguard is HERE!

The Mace of Molag Bal functions similarly in this game. Though honestly, I find that the court wizard in Dragonreach usually has a few gems filled to sell. If you have the money, you could just buy them off of him.

I'd also like to applaud the devs for FINALLY tying the strength of permanent enchantments to the soul level of the gem you enchant it with. Enchanting in Oblivion was a pain in the ass because it was tied to your magic skills.

Go to Raldbthar. Plenty of soul gems throughout, and near the end there's an orc knife which, if it inflicts the killing blow on a living enemy, will fill a soul gem.
I found a dagger at a merchant that had that enchantment. So I disenchanted and put it on my dagger. You know, the one that does 150 points of damage on a successful backstab? I got gems to fill, baby!

Im trying to decide if I want to specialize 1h axe or 1h mace. I'm always wary of "extra bleed damage" because it's usually a paltry amount. That said, I havent tried axe specialization yet so I have no idea.

rofl, dragon attacks me as I pass by a stable, a fight starts, suddenly... 5 horses go in and kick the shit out of that dragon... ROFLMAO

DoTs were pretty great in Oblivion, especially poison ones. I've currently been making lingering poisons that do about 50-60 points of damage over 10 seconds, which is awesome.

Good lord, I don't think I've enjoyed a game this much in a long time. The quests are great, the graphics are phenomenal, and I don't feel gimped by going the stealth assassin route.

This game is within my top 5 games of all time. I expected excellence. I got it... and this without all the patches and mods yet.

So I'm riding somewhere north of the map, near the water when I come across these two skeletons.

The music changed as I rode up to them... I almost... cried.

...God-dammit... I have this game pre-ordered through EB Games, but I don't have the cash to finish up what I owe on it.... you guys are killing me here...

Alright, going to bed.

This happened a few minutes, ago. Heading back to Whiterun (I never fast travel). Came up to this pair of towers with bandits on them. I start fighting, getting in the thick of things, I turn around, hearing my horse neighing and see... this.

Oh, and a picture from my horse vs dragon from before

First mod I have used already because my Breton's forehead wrinkles/old lady lines were freakin killing me.
Except now she looks like a brown haired Nord or Imperial. Kinda seems like you should have just made one of those.

I'd also like to mention that this is the first Elder Scrolls game where money felt less than abundant. Since you can't just break into someone's house and turn their food into potions anymore, it's a bit harder to just use alchemy to make a pile of money. Though now Smithing seems to have replaced it...

I've gotten a few Daedric artifacts as well... they seem a little less powerful this time around. I mean hell... the mask I found (Volrund) is better than the mask (Mask of Clavicus Vile) I was going to get for doing the quest I was on my way to! Also, Volrund was a little bitch. Don't know why people were complaining about him.

Nord or Imperial didn't have the bonuses I wanted.
Perhaps. Did you ever consider just copying their files into a new folder then using the creation tools to make your own race with their features, but with the bonuses you want? I know it was possible in Morrowind and Oblivion at least.

That seems like a lot of work over installing a ready-made mod.

I am playing a Redguard Paladin and it has been a long time since I had that much fun in a game.
Had one seriously shocking moment when I was walking across the steppes when I saw a dragon fly across the sky."Awsome", I think and run after it just to be hit by a deer skull dropping from the sky.

I have to say that this game feels more, I dunno, "alive" than most games. There's just so much random cool and impactful stuff that can happen. It feels like its what morrowwind and oblivion were striving for, but didn't quite reach.

BTW
I love the "laid to rest" storyline, though short, it was awesome... plus vampires.

Has there ever been a game where people posted stories of their characters and others actually enjoyed them? I mean seriously, the situations and storylines in this game are amazing. I have another to post in the "Tales" thread, but the pics are on my PC at home.

It's actually tied to both. And *maybe* tied to the underlying quality of the item, but I'm not sure. Enchanting is definitely awesome in this one.

I'm running a high elf pure mage in this one. No combat skills to speak of whatsoever, roughly 600 magic at the moment. I have destruction and alteration pimped out pretty severely. There is something so incredibly satisfying about dual casting lightning bolts into everything and blasting them across the room.

You pretty much are required to have a melee follower tank for you. Which means that one tricky part about it is that I am finally at a place where I need to start using the Adept level destruction spells more often (fireballs/chain lightning), but I keep accidentally killing my follower. I've started pimping her out in resist magic gear (she's pretty up there at the moment) so I may be able to get away with just blasting her and them both.

I've finished the College of Magic quest line, which (this shouldn't be a spoiler to anyone who has ever played a TES game) left me as the Archmage at the end. It was pretty cool and you get some amazing gear. Now I'm just taking a break from the main quest lines and I am going around killing everything I can get my hands on.

One mistake I've made, and I need to stop it right now, is that I've gotten a lot of skill levels in both enchanting and smithing (like 90 combined). So, with the difficulty scaling the way it is that means I have 9 levels in non-combat related skills.

Sounds like you focus on +magicka items. I don't have as much Magicka as you, but I have a shit ton of +magicka regen. I think with my robes, mask and necklace I have 280% plus the 50% extra from restoration perks.

Also, you don't need a tanking cohort, you just need to use your wards more often.

I keep accidentally killing my follower.
I've physically yelled at my computer. "You fucking moron! Get the fuck out of my way! AUUUUUGH!!"
My son thinks it's hilarious but my wife thinks I'm insane.

Oh, and Skrim sells 3.4 MILLION copies in the first 2 days. You think that's amazing? It isn't counting digital purchases!!! So the multitudes who bought it on Steam are NOT counted in these numbers.
Jesus Christ.

The problem with wards is that I can't dual cast offensive spells if I am using a ward, and dual casting is insanely powerful.

Also I now have a black soul gem. I just need to find a child and my plans for the magical "Kiddie Gloves" will be realized.

Found that Koiss/Dragon fight... again, not that hard. I'm playing a Nord so I could just ignore the Frost Dragon's ice and focus on the Lich. Then again, maybe it's because I'm doing 118 damage a shot with my bow, even before adding in things like poison. Current Setup:

- Glass Bow (Legendary Quality, 3 second Soul Trap on hit. )
- Glass Arrows (18 damage)
- Koiss (+20% Bow damage, Alchemy, and something else)
- Ebony Gauntlets (+17% Bow Damage)
- Fortis' Token (+5% to Bow Damage)
- Ring of Minor Archery (+15% Bow damage)
- Ebony Mail (Harder to detect while stealthed, 5 damage poison aura on melee targets)
- Ebony Boots (+17% Fire resist)

I also keep Volrund (+20 Carry capacity, water breath, and I think +20% better pricing) around for those times I need to go diving or carry more stuff.

I think that those anonymous notes you keep getting are tied to the number of times you use shouts or something. The first time I got one it spoke about the town I was in, but the most recent one I received spoke of a dungeon I had just completed. That means people seeing it has nothing to do with it.

Also, having played elder scrolls games in the past, I'm picking up on subtle clues
that I may be turning into a vampire. All the NPCs keep telling me that I don't look so good.
