To be fair, negative publicity is also publicity.. read the last few paragraphs and it'll make sense.
Also, these days doing something incredible doesn't get that much attention anymore. Doing something incredibly stupid however wins Internet Fame.

And the Mario pic is indeed badass

Heh. I can understand where they are coming from (I don't agree with it) but it is interesting to see that PETA doesn't really understand (or I assume they don't understand) how the whole world runs. It is all about money and lifestyle.

Every single product contribute some environmental issue. It might be small or large. the metal cages they use (mining and environmental damages like strip mining) the clothing/shoes they wear (most come from oil base product. Even cotton since you need machinery which RUNS on oil base products to gather the materials. It is unavoidable. It would be nice to have an animal cruelty free world, but I wonder how many of them are willing to trade places with such animals when it comes down to it.

Would you sacrifice your own life to prevent an animal from being killed? It is one thing to say it, but it is another to actually do it.

why dont they care about the frog suit.... frogs are living creatures too peta!

Playing this game totally makes me want to go out, kill something and get its skin/fur to wear as a whole body suit. TOTALLY.

As I recall, Mario's only ever gone near cake, mushrooms, maple syrup and turnips.

Totally a vegetarian.

I think PETA knows perfectly well how over the top their stuff is. They're not idiots. A good friend of mine calls it "pulling back the pendulum". If you want to center a pendulum, you have to pull it pretty far the other way first.

This is the same vein of thinking as "any press is good press". At some point, the pendulum is pulled back so far, nobody on the other side can even see it anymore.

And if I recall frogs and other amphibian populations have been declining in recent years too. So, you'd think anyway, it would make them great poster boys for PETA.

I imagine a furry little racoon dog plucks the heartstrings, and hit counters, a bit easier than a slimy swamp dweller though, at least where the general population is concerned.

And really, all they are going for is attention, as always. Mario has been wearing the tanooki suit since 1988 without them commenting on the thing at all. But now, with the release of super mario 3d land, he's back in the headlines in the suit and on everyone's mind, which peta are clearly using by association. When I search the games title in google, they come up first in result 8.

Huh, you might be right. He eats eggs and honey in Super Paper Mario, but the "steak" there is shroom steak.

Then again, mushrooms are sentient in the Mushroom Kingdom.
