[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

Just came across my RSS feed.

Anytime he can take a shot he goes for it. Instead of saying "good job for finally including web cartoonists and recognizing their work" it's "you bitter old fogies are 10 years behind the times." I could understand this if he was a struggling cartoonist bitter about not finding a career he loves but being successful he should not give one single fuck if the guy who does Hagar the Horrible doesn't embrace webcomics as the second coming.
Other than that I did enjoy the comic. I need to do what Shego does and just stop reading his blogs. I have to remind myself when I read them it's not a 17 year old kid posting it's a 40 year old man. Then I think of the 40 year olds I know and couldn't imagine one of them going off on one of Scott's rants and not looking completely foolish.

Who does he write these rants for?

Is there a segment of readership out there that actually takes an interest in it?

And now, in LICD, another week or so of "Oh look, Rayne has hidden depths again." This time we'll be shown that he's actually been living with some kind of mental illness this whole time, that none of his friends knew about, including himself. (ie generally if you're on medication, you shouldn't drink alcohol or take stimulants).

When's the last time he's done either?

::goes to read it::

Yeah, I don't think he understands what a false equivalency is. Changing an avatar vs. showing what the results of the legislation may look like aren't really the same thing. People learn by examples, Kurtz.

And in typical comic craziness, he shall be convinced it's terminal.

Depending on the site I kind of agree with him. Nerd-heavy sites like Reddit won't make a difference as it's preaching to the choir. Wikipedia, now, that's another story.

And like Scott says "Because shutting my site down won't stop SOPA but it'll negatively affect my month." Why punish himself by not posting a strip for a day when he can post a strip and make a statement on the evils afoot. Scott calls it MyPlan: "Wouldn't it be better for sites with a lot of reach to stay up and just post something about SOPA to raise awareness #myplan"
I do agree with the avatar thing, though. I see it on facebook where someone will post "change your avatar to a cartoon character getting ass raped by a donkey if you are against beating baby seals" and I think "how the hell is that going to prevent the beating of baby seals?

I have an answer for that, Steve. When you do something drastic, people notice. Who really reads his bullshit under his comic (except for when he's being a total a-hole, of course)?

Also, for something like facebook, every knowlegable/aware person that changes the avatar to an anti sopa graphic is one more oportunity to inform those who are clueless.

Scott won. I give him credit. He handled this situation rather well.

It all started when Scott tweeted Aah! Wait. Slow down. explain it again. I NEVER LEARND TO PHOTOSHP!!!! http://emmyc.tumblr.com/post/13716079614/shadow-glowy-things

Tarol assumed Scott was being cruel and called him out only to receive a smackdown. Scott clarified later Man, if I came off as if I was dissing that photoshop tutorial…No. I think it's amazing. I wish I understood it all better. I get so lost.

Scott summed it up "you're not the first guy to solicit attention by trying to make me an opponent. I just expected more from you." and explained "He baited me. I ignored it. He tried again today. I acknowledged him, and you call me petty?"

Bullshit he did. Thunt made a tweet asking for clarification (no way could that be considered calling him out) and right out of the gate Kurtz replied "do you REALLY expect me to talk to you like a person?"

Yes, Scott, we all expect you to treat people as human beings. Just because you're an asshole with some power doesn't give you the right to treat anyone as less than human.

Kurtz is blowing things out of proportion. Thunt made a blog post disagreeing with Kurtz, and now Scott is all prickly because he's assumed things about Thunt that aren't true. Thunt was commenting on the industry, and Kurtz is completely unfair in assuming that it's just an attempt to piggy-back on bigger fame.

It doesn't really matter who "won." It was an argument on the internet between two cartoonists bickering over a misunderstanding. Everyone came out of that looking like an egotistical moron.

Todays was much better. I'm just glad the goat arc is over. It was like a bland sitcom.

Also, for some reason, I've started hearing skull and scratch as Brian and Stewie.

Skull has always had this goofy kinda voice for me - think Lenny from Of Mice And Men, or maybe Mongo from Blazing Saddles (except he can form complete sentences).

Bil Fagerbakke would be a good voice for Skull.

EDIT AS OF 2/1/2012: So that new character is clearly just Jean-Ralphio from "Parks and Recreation", right? Not just me?
