So I had this business idea...

Way back in the early 80's I had a business idea that would have gotten me a lot of money. Unfortunately, I didn't have the money to start it up and so I never did. Now, of course, that business idea has passed its usefulness and is no longer a viable business model. (It was a try it before you buy it computer software store with LAN tournaments & other cool stuff. Digital has made it a worthless idea.)

So what cool business ideas can you think of for TODAY'S market? I'm trying to come up with another gold idea but my old brain is just limited.

Same here. I started learning iOS development for that purpose. I want to see a master/slave iPad setup for classrooms, where the slaves are semi-autonomous, but to which the master can disperse info on demand from the front of the classroom. It'd be a good supplement to the often washed-out projector systems.

Give Adam money and he will have fun with it. He will then tell you all about it when he again asks you for more money.

I know I'm sitting on the a comic property that could be as big as Ben Ten, but I don't have the time to develop it or properly market it.

I hear you on that one, buddy. I'm convinced Fade is an awesome story. I just haven't updated it since the dawn of time :(

Ditto on a comic idea. I had this great idea that ties in some of my issues (no pun intended) with today's mainstream superhero comics. Had ideas that would last minimum 70 issues.

Unfortunately, I can't draw my way out of a paper bag. :(

I've got an app or two I'd like to develop for higher education.
I'll keep you in my rolodex when I get done with grad school. We could maybe work on some stuff. For instance, I'd love to see an app that equates the use of SPSS or R. Especially because tablets will probably be the norm by the time I'm done with grad school.

A statistics app would be phenomenal. I'm teaching myself Android development at the moment. If you're serious about something like this, start learning Java! (or Object C for i-Devices)

And another: since iPhone games became the big thing, I've felt that the old Shadowgate, Deja Vu, and The Uninvited games - or at least their style of gameplay - would translate extremely well onto an app platform. That and point-and-click adventure games.

Way to come up with a big idea: think of something you'd like that doesn't exist in the form you want. Break out of the realm of putting up with an inconvenience and think of how it could be done.

That digital game rental thing? I want that.

I have a zombie survival game idea that I've been kicking around in the 'ol noodle noggin' for a while.

Man, didn't you used to help out at the Labrynth? You should know like, every comic artist in Ontario.

I always thought opening a bar with a coffee shop theme that shows NO sports on the tvs would be a nice addition to the local scene. Every bar around here without exception is full of drunk rednecks loudly watching whatever sport is in season. Nothing for the college students surprisingly since this is a college town.

I helped a little bit, like when they needed extra people for conventions. And it was so fucking busy that I couldn't talk to anyone.

Chocolate covered poprocks in a computer case shaped dispenser. Name them "Gigglebites" cuz they tickle your mouth when you bite into them and it sounds like "gigabites"...

Bummer. That guy seriously knows just about everyone in animation and comic books in Ontario, if not Canada.
I know plenty of really awesome artists I could direct you to, but they like to get paid for their work. If you're serious about it let me know. If the projects good and there's pay in it, I might be able to help. I know you're still going back to school and stuff right now, so I realize that may be asking a lot.
I would offer my own services, but honestly I don't consider myself much of an artist. I am a cartoonist at best.

Thanks, man. Honestly, it's a combination of things that's stopping this:
1) Almost no experience with comic script writing. I've written some, but none that have ever gone past a script stage.
2) Finding an artist to work with.
3) Finding an artist to work with who won't drop out on me (had that happen a few times, though they weren't professional artists)
4) No money to fund an artist. My ideal situation would be to co-create something with an artist and pitch it to Image or something. The idea I have is still relatively rough, something that an artist could help me finish or flesh out with their own input.

I had an amazing business plan. It was to start a business that would offer to listen to the business plans of other businesses, and then use those plans to get rich.

But Dave beat me to it (I'm onto you!)

Nick, I remember you pitched some idea to me at one point that sounded interesting. Anything ever happen with that. I remember I was explaining EM fields, but dropped the ball when I changed jobs.

Manufacturing, or acting as the middle-man for, plush dolls based on webcomic characters. I know there are cartoonists who haven't gotten plushes made because they don't know how. Someone needs to make it easy for them to get the right contacts.

My minor is computer science, so I just finished an entire semeseter of Java.

I'll be honest, though, multithreading is kicking my ass.

Actually, I had a great idea tonight while I was in the shower. Yes, that is where I do my best thinking.

Anyway, this is all contingent on me winning the lottery or coming into a large grip o' cash.

1) Move HF to a massive private server to handle all the traffic.
2) Pay a webmaster good money to work on the site. Probably Ame. I'm talking 50k.
3) Give Nathan Fillion $1 million to do a year's worth of weekly podcasts with me. It would be the Nathan and Dave hour.
4) Pay guests $5000 each to appear.

Okay, so here's what makes this a good idea. I would be totally upfront about how the show came to pass. I'd admit to being just some guy who could afford to do this based on luck. Play to the dreamer nerd in the base. Note that this would NOT be a show where we interview Nathan, instead, he would be one of the interviewers.

So why is that a good idea? Well, Nathan gets a ton of cash, the site would get exposure and traffic, I'd be able to make a living doing podcasts and gaining ad revenue while running the site, and everyone would be able to enjoy a fun podcast weekly. After the year is over and Nathan left, my name would already be out there as someone who did interviews. I'd be able to pull in guests to help share duties. Or I'd pay Nathan another $million.

Now all I have to do is win the lottery.
