Old school style with some new school sensibilities, I like it.

Except for what looks like a pixel hunt puzzle in that trailer... RRRAWWWWRRR

Grimrock goes RC3!! They say this will more than likely be the Gold build and set for release! OMGOMGOMG!!

If this happens on April 1 I think I'll buy an additional copy and hold some sort of contest.

Update! It's now gold and ready for release! Next week they will be giving details and I'll bet we'll be able to start getting it then. So excited!

Read the links I shared a couple posts above. I agree with all of it. Magic is kind of a pain in the ass until you get used to it and SPIDERS FUCKING SUUUUUUUUCK!

Other than that I'm having a whale of a time playing it.

Looks nice, heard good things about it... my only qualm? Live, button spamming combat. That sort of gameplay irks the fuck out of me.

Down to level 2. Game is super cool. Almost got mutilated by three skeletons, got out of that trap by the skin of my teeth. I think I built my mage dumb. He's practically useless right now.

I'll be honest, I probably wouldn't have bought this game on my own just by looking at it unless it was on sale but that would have been a mistake. This game is worth it's price so far. I'm really liking it. It's also gorgeous, which doesn't hurt it.

Yeah, mages are super wimpy at first and when you make your characters initially for the first playthrough you WILL put valuable points where you don't want them. I'll write up kind of a starters guide when I get the chance.

I'm only on level 4 because I am not moving fast and I'm looking for every secret there is to find.

And Frank...SPIDERS SUCK! You'll find that out in about 1 level...

Hmm... now I am curious and may actually purchase this game... but damnit! I'm just about done with the lower levels of the wall around my harbor, and can soon start mining my ass off for enough cobblestone and coal to make enough stone to build the twin colossi guarding the entrance, and then the city, and the piers, and the warehouses, and and and... dear gods Minecraft is addictive.

Solo. I want practice building things that don't look completely stupid before subjecting my buildings to public review.

Edit: Also, got my MoP beta invite... probably won't be doing much of either Minecraft or buying new games for a little bit, until I get tired of the giant charlie-foxtrot that is the beta servers right now.

OK, so I lied. I was bored as hell last night, the beta servers are a madhouse, and I didn't feel like spending more hours digging in the ground for diamonds with which to make diamond picks and harvest obsidian. Steam was offering LoG for $13.49 so I snapped it up. Fun game. It definitely isn't too easy, which is awesome. I've half a mind to start a new game tonight and set it to old school mode.

Yeah, it's a hoot! And once you reach the sixth level of the dungeon the difficulty factor goes up!

Few hints:

  • Dex does NOT affect missile weapon damage! Strength and weapon skill are the only things that do. Dex is for accuracy only.
  • Concentrate your skills on doing one thing well. Putting multiple skill points in other things is a waste of time.
  • You do NOT have to find a scroll to cast a spell, merely know the runes. There aren't that many spells to begin with.
  • Learn to move and attack. Ice Wizards are great for this as you can get Ice Bolt and freeze the monsters in place, which is great for backstabbing or running away.
  • SPIDERS SUUUUUUCK! Also, on the 6th level you'll meet your first Ogre. Don't let him run at you in a straight line.

Yeah, I learned that lesson last night with my first attempt through. I threw my mage's points into several different types of magic at 1 point each and couldn't cast a damn thing. Also, moving and attacking. I got a little ways in to level 3 last night before getting stuck in a room with multiple groups of skeleton pikers attacking me and managed to get myself cornered. Didn't work out so well after that.

I found the best thing to do in that room is to maneuver so that you can get into one of the alcoves they vacated. Take them on one group at a time instead of all at once and getting slapped silly from the back and sides. That happens in a couple other places as well. Also, if you see a pit, more often than not it's a GOOD thing to leap into them!

I never would have guessed that... my only experience with pits is up on level 1, where "to close the pit something must fly," and falling in hurts.

Update to this game. The devs are close to rolling out a level editor. The editor will be free and you'll see a shitload of new content. Add in the fact that there's a lot of mods that add stuff and you have one seriously fun game for the price.

I know, right? The dungeon builder is now in alpha stage and will be released in the next couple of months. It's speculated that they will partner with the Steam Workshop, but that's just rumor at this point.

I like what I played of this game, but I'm still not keen on the spell system for the mage. It's so cumbersome (yes, I know it's a throwback game and is kind of SUPPOSED to be cumbersome).

They released TODAY the level editor beta. I have it but haven't been able to play too much yet. But the levels and dungeons will be available through the Steam Workshop and devs said they have to be free. This is going to seriously rock!
