[Question] So what did you do for your mom today?

My mom lives hundreds of miles from me so I don't get to see her as often as I'd like and seeing as Mother's Day is only a couple of weeks from her birthday and she was sorta bummed out about Dark Shadows (her favorite TV show of all time) being turned into a farcical Tim Burton remake my brothers and I bought her this ridiculousness:

http://www.amazon.ca/Dark-Shadows-C...6SYK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336930598&sr=8-1

It's 131 discs of the original TV show. The whole run. Something like 1200 episodes.

This is a thread to show how much better you are than other mother's children by bragging about what kind of silly shit you bought her today, the only day of the year it's ok to appreciate your mother.

Then I lose automatically... I did nothing for my mom, as I was feeling too tired to even visit her and dad for some coffee and cake :(

Then again, she and I meet every day as she is instrumental in maintaining the kidney drain I have. So there isn't a day when I don't thank her at least three or four times.

The greatest gift of all. No contact.

MiL, on the other hand has a box of rose shaped chocolates on the way with a card from us. :p

In addition to getting her the usual flowers, I made lunch. It was an exquisite example of culinary delights (macaroni and cheese). I managed to f it up good. And burn my hand on the oven.

Yeah, I'm a real wizard around the kitchen...

So we agreed I'd wash the windows next week. And clean the oven of the remnants of my short career as master chef.

My mom got cards from us and I sent her an Amazon gift card since she is an avid reader with a Kindle. My MIL got cards from us and a gardenia plant since she loves gardening. I got a card from my kids, an email from my husband, two bottles of nail polish that my son picked out (I almost always have on open-toed shoes, so I keep my toenails painted with funky colors), and pajamas.

I really miss my mom. Next time I'm on days off I'm gonna drive down and see her and let her cook delicious food for me.

In before "Your Mom" post.

Also, I will be phoning my Moms* later in the evening to catch up on things.

*Not what you probably thought, though that'd be interesting. Dad just remarried.

Well, and I'm saying this with all honesty, my mom is one of the best cooks I've ever known. Her food still blows me away to this day (and is probably a big reason why I was a big fat kid growing up...see also video games). I know most people say this about their moms as far as I've known, but having had a lot of other people's moms cooking, I know my mom is a 1%er in cooking skill.

The only thing my mom cooks poorly is steak, but that's because, as we all know, steak preparation is a highly contentious subject (I always send her texts of when I eat a big, nearly raw, slab of prime rib, which disgusts her).

Called my mom and told her about the closest thing she's probably getting to grandkids for a while, if at all, my little cousins. And wished her happy mother's day.

I had to be reminded every day this week that mother's day was coming. Each day I'd forget entirely, including today, and have to be reminded.

I'm going to the parentals for supper. Mother's day has been kinda tempered this year since my grandma was diagnosed with acute renal failure on friday... :(

My parents are in Vancouver/Alberta until next Monday night, but by the time she gets back there'll be a card and a Lululemon gift card waiting for her.

I called her for 5 minutes, from work.
We celebrate Mother's Day on august 15th (Mother Maria day) in our part of Belgium, so, yeah.
MiL got my girlfriend as a surprise visitor for dinner :-P

told her I was proud to have been her hellspawn of a son, got her a fancy lapboard for her to use with her ipad.

I love my mom, I really do, but she's pissed me off so much in the last year, I decided to do exactly what she's done for me... jack squat.

I'm a little bitter towards her right now.

Mom's on the other side of the country, so I called. My brother and I are looking into getting her and my dad tickets to a Huey Lewis and the News/Joe Cocker concert for a combined Mothers' Day/Fathers' Day thing.

I was inspired by Jay 's recipe, found here, and made my mom dinner. I also bought her the first season of Sherlock and wrote a letter on fancy paper in my fountain pen (which took some time to get working again as it had dried up!).

I treated my mom (and my friend) to dinner at the hibachi.. my god was that expensive. I should have seen it coming but my lousy math skills have gotten me yet again.

My mom helped me pack and move my stuff home. We are exhausted but it was fun spending time together.

Am I too late?

My sister and I sent flowers to our mothers grave. I got The Book of Awesome and a card for my Adoptive Mom. My husband picked up The Visitors Guide to Earth for his mom.

"Jet" got me a copy of Heavy Rain and Steve treated me to breakfast in bed....and a surprise concert! He had a baby sitter lined up and everything! We went to see Chris De Burgh. :)

Wow... does your wife know?
Thank goodness I wasn't the only one reading this in that way. I was wracking my brain trying to figure out if I was reading it wrong or something.

Also, that was the surprise visit.
