The last 5 minutes were SUPER rushed. I feel the ending would have benefited enormously from an extra 5 or 10 minutes. I think the Deus Ex Machina, if it was so, wasn't due to it not making sense within the story or for lack of foreshadowing or whatever. There were just, like, 2 lines of dialogue missing.

It held help up in some ways and failed in many others. I actually thought the music was better, which is saying something when you consider the soundtrack for the first series was phenomenal. It also did a great job of fleshing out it's supporting cast... which is odd, because the main cast didn't get shit. We know more about Lin, Tenzin, Tarlock, and Amon that we really learned about Korra, Mako, Bolin, and Asami. I kind of feel like Season 2 needs a flashback episode where we learn more about all of them.

I wish I knew what Nickelodeon has against its biggest cash cow. Even with the first series, they quit the series with 4-6 episodes left, then just blasted the whole thing out in one day months after the rest of the world got to see what happened.

Then that successful team pitches another show set in that universe, and Nic would only spring for a 12 episode mini series...

Executive meddling is what is wrong with this new series.

It's because Avatar is REALLY hard to merchandise. The first series had a few action figures, some lego sets, and some weird toys. This series is probably going to be the same.

Yeah, I know. To us it seems adequate... but Nick can just look at something like Spongebob Square Pants. They have him on EVERYTHING and it all sells.

It's not just vieweship, it's also demographics. Avatar has a rather sizable adult fan base who don't buy the same sorts of things as parents would for their kids. Adult fans don't want coloring books or backpacks or party supplies. They want action figures, books, and comics... things that have a higher production cost and a lower profit margin.

I'm not saying that Nick's executives are handling the series well, but I am saying that they would be having a tougher time than they would with something like Spongebob.

Fainally watched this show. It was better than I feared but still not as good as the Last Airbender. It was way too rushed, especially that ending, which really just on its own could have stood to be 3 episodes longer.

*Edit: Just read the last few pages of the thread. I guess we're pretty much all in agreement, then.

I don't think I'll make it in to the Korra panel, but Nate will, HE MUST! So, I'll have updates/news for you when I get back from SDCC - hopefully some word on season 2.

It’s official: The Legend continues! Nickelodeon has picked up a second season of the animated adventure series The Legend of Korra, EW has learned. After averaging 3.8 million viewers for Season 1, Book 1, which concluded June 23, the Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel received an order for 26 more episodes (which presumably will be divided into two parts called Books 3 and 4.)
The show is already set to return in 2013 with the premiere of Season 1, Book 2 (which consists of 14 episodes, finishing off the original 26-episode order), as 17-year-old chosen one Korra (voiced by Janet Varney) has now become a fully realized Avatar. The cast also includes Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men), David Faustino (Married… with Children), and P.J. Byrne (Horrible Bosses).

The second season had been confirmed but only for 14 episodes but this is for another 26 episodes on top of the previously mentioned season 2.

I'd.... I'd have realized that if I had actually read the quote or the article instead of immediately brushin it off after I saw the url said "second season". I have no excuse.

We all know what I must do. There is no other option.

I wouldn't mind another season... but I'd much rather have another Avatar series altogether IMO. This feels so much less epic than the first series.

And the way they rushed the first season leave little for them to do. Bad guy was defeated, she's an avatar, she's got the guy... so.. yeah... what is left?

They would have been so much better off if they....

I'm not sure where the story will go unless they pull some "AND THEN AMON, LIKE, SAVED HIMSELF USING WATERBENDING OR WHATEVER, SO HE LIKE, TOTALLY DIDN'T DIE AT THE END EVEN THOUGH WE SAID HE DID." But they could introduce a new enemy easily enough. There were other Equalists other than Amon, that movement doesn't just die just cause the leader got killed. New guy comes in and takes over. Or there's some completely new issue at hand, who knows.

As for pacing, I bet it'll be a lot better. They wrote out Book One thinking it was going to be one self contained story, so they had to cram a full beginning, middle and end into one season. Season two will likely be fairly rushed too (But I suspect it won't be as bad, if they paid any attention to the criticisms of fans over the first one), but season 3 and 4 they know they have some breathing room.

The Equalist movement literally started back when Aang was still fighting the Fire Nation. One of the primary villains of one of the video games was a woman who used complex machines to fight Aang and the rest, for basically the same reasons the Equalists used. It would make sense if there were more of them to lead the movement.

But I honestly think the next season is going to be about spirit world bullshit.
