[Comics] Earth-2

Pretty good so far, love the art, and James Robinson's writing a solid story. My thoughts so far, nothing too spoilerly, but I'll tag them anyway, especially since issue 3 only came out yesterday.

  • This is how you redesign Superman and Wonder Woman's costumes, why couldn't those have been the New 52 costumes.
  • Holy cow a great first issue. It's interesting to see a young Jay Garrick.
  • Flash's new origin while a radical departure is much better than the Hard Water fumes.
  • How can you top Apokolips?
  • Issue 2 of Earth-2, heh
  • Not sure about Jay's costume, it's a modern version of his old one. It's not terrible, but his old one was classic.
  • I love seeing Flash figuring out his powers, and helping people. I enjoy heroes that don't need motivation to be one, just the opportunity.
  • Hawkgirl, not much to tell yet. It would be cool if it was Kendra, and the Hawks had to cross realities to find each other. That would also make a pretty good tie between New 52 Earth-1 and this Earth-2.
  • I hope someone got the number of that refrigerator.
  • Green Lantern is the Champion of the earth, as told by the "not going to help because Superman" spirit of the earth. Okay.
  • No more Starheart, so definitely no tying Alan to the Corps.
  • I like his new costume. It's a completely radical departure from Alan's previous, but much less gaudy. It could use a cape though.
  • GL and Hawkgirls costumes make Flash's look better. Not that they're bad, just that they give a more unifying look, without making all three look like they share the same tailor and penchant for mandarin collars (*cough* Justice League *cough*).
  • Hawkgirl has real wings? That's what it looked like anyway, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  • Well now we know what day it is in the book. Grundy gets a big redesign, and has discovered S&M. Certainly more disturbing now.

Nope, that headgear was awful in the 90's and still is...

But a skirt always looks better on her.

    • I thought the Spirit of the Earth's non-involvement in the Apokilips War made sense. Earth had defenders then. Had a Green Lantern been selected then, it seems like they may well could have died alongside the Trinity and the world might be poop out of luck now.
    • I'm rather anxious to see how Terry Sloane's story plays out. Power Girl, in a flashback, makes reference to him in the latest issue of World's Finest. While fairly neutral, he seems to be at least well known as a genius and not disliked by PG. There might be something interesting there.
    • So we have Green Lantern, The Flash, Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific (OK, he's in captivity but he's still a costumed hero), and (Dr.) Fate roughly confirmed as active heroes on this world so far. The Atom is supposed to debut next month, though the solicit calls him Atom Smasher. The cover of issue zero has a guy in all red toting some guns, screaming "CRIMSON AVENGER" to me. We've also had hints at the possibility of Hourman and Wildcat in the future. Shaping up nicely so far.
    • I also wouldn't write Sam off as fridged just yet. There's a kookie theory going around, based on his "lurking in the shadows" and his connection to GL, that he'll be back as a new Obsidian.

So GL has his powers from the Green now... meh.

I still prefer the meteorite thing, especially since it's 3 things can be tied into other characters easy, Life = Savage, Death = Grundy, Power = GL.

Norris
Atom Smasher is not The Atom. Just a heads up.
I know the difference between
Al Rotherstein and Al Pratt
, thank you very much. However, from DC's own solicitation for issue four

The debut of the all-new ATOM SMASHER!
While the end of issue three says
Next Issue: The Atom!
And the solicit for issue five says
The Green Lantern, Hawkgirl and The Flash take on Grundy and the military’s hero, The Atom!
So it looks like whoever wrote the description for issue three screwed up, but when that was all we had to go on, it looked like Al Pratt was going to be the post-Flashpoint Atom Smasher.

No need to get angry. I thought you had made a mistake. One that could easily be made if you're not that into comics.

I haven't but an issue in over a year now..since the end of FlashPoint, I think?

Has that been a year?

One year this September. To commemorate this, DC will be publishing Issue 0 of all their titles (which will also be the first issues for the wave 3 titles). 0 issues will be origin/backstory/jumping on points of the titles.
