Nostalgia: Failure and Success

I liked 12 a lot (despite Vaan and Penelo being awful additions and the main villain being pretty shitty and unmemorable too). I wasn't the biggest fan of 7.

Funniest part about 12 was all the whining in the games media (magazines and such) about the pronunciation of marquis despite them being completely wrong.

Isn't it amazing how every thread about nostalgia and games turns into one about final fantasy ?
Yes, and ocnsidering I've never played any of them, but I do have lots of nostalgia for other games, it saddens me. Though I understand the feeling about an awesome series going downhill and all that.

FFVI has aged well, though I do recommend getting the GBA re-release if you can. It's got more content and fewer bugs. Evasion actually works for one.
.
Or, if you don't happen to have a GBA compatably handheld, The same updated version was released for the PSone (which will play on any playstation) as well as available in the PSN for download. It is also available on the Wii virtual console. So, it's available on quite a few modern systems.

I'd give it a try, but I only have a DSi XL and a PC :p

PSX version doesn't have the extra dungeon, bosses, or Espers. Only the GBA version. Also, the PSX version has load times which are MUCH longer than they should be.

And I don't think you're really missing anything over the extra content (though I do admit when I hit the end of FFVI and did all the other quests, I was wondering where the optional super-boss was since I'd gotten used to those in other Final Fantasy games).

Keep in mind that if you're playing it as a download, you're not going to be dealing with the same shitty load times as on the PSX port since there's no disc. I'm so glad we're moving back to a form of game loaded without use of a disc thanks to downloads--I can play PSP games much quicker when they're on my memory card as opposed to on the easily-destroyed UMD.
