[Movies] MCU: Phase 5 - To Kang or Not to Kang

This wasn't even fun to angry-watch, and I'm quickly approaching the point where I'm going to write the MCU off entirely. They've totally lost track of what made the movies fun to begin with.
The MCU's early strength was its inventiveness and ingenuity. They took these different genres and showed audiences what adding superheroes could do. Ant-Man was a heist film... with superheroes. Captain America was a period World War II movie... with superheroes. You get the idea. There was also the thrill of discovery. New characters were introduced with cameos and we got to look forward to seeing them again in a year or so.

Now it seems like the MCU is on a treadmill. There is no anticipation anymore because we know another movie or Disney+ series is right around the corner. The films aren't BAD. They're certainly miles ahead of most DC movies. But they lack the spark that made the MCU such a novelty.

Nah, some of the recent ones are absolutely bad. Bad scripts, bad direction, incoherent decisions. Shang Chi is an example of what you’re talking about - a movie that followed their formula to a fault and did what they’ve always done. This Captain America movie and Eternals before it are just ugly messes that don’t warrant the time they take to watch.

For what it's worth, I've been enjoying the recent Daredevil revival. It's willingness to spend a lot of time on Matt Murdock when he's NOT out being the shit out of people is refreshing.

Daredevil: Born Again season 1 concluded and here are my quick thoughts. Overall a very good series. The season finale feels incomplete but it opens the series to what I hope will be a very strong 2nd season. Punisher finally gets a little attention in the finale and it’s great to see that actor return to the role. Daredevil does make an odd choice in the previous episode that feels unexplored in the finale, and quite possibly just makes things worse for everyone.

A personal issue for me is my inability to disconnect this from the MCU since it’s been confirmed as part of it. A lot of crap is going down and it feels like somehow Daredevil is the only one really involved.

The Avengers are "gone", SHIELD's been out of action for years and only deals with national security issues, and SWORD is busy dealing with fucking aliens, so who would actually be involved in dealing with this? I guess we could get The Defenders back up but we'll see if that actually happens.

A friendly neighborhood someone for one.

Blame Sony for that one. They've been dragging their feet getting a new Spider-man movie out because they wanted to waste all that fucking money on Kraven and Madam Web, I guess.

They also seem to want Spider-man to waste away in production purgatory, because newer execs in charge seem to think working with Marvel was a mistake. Better to own 100% of a grape rather than 50% of a watermelon, apparently.

To be fair, it’s just a consistent plot hole that you will see in any superhero film that has a larger connected universe. Where is everybody else during these major crisis moments? Sure you might be able to explain away a few heroes but you can’t explain away everyone.
