The Awesome Videos Thread (with Extra Sauce!)

Yeah, I was born in 85 and I got very familiar with "get off the internet, I'm waiting for a call sometime in the next week."

    Israel Thread

It's not even "this will make me commit warcrimes" it's "this won't stop me from committing war crimes and they'll be bigger out of spite." Just awful.

    Video Game News and Miscellany

Look, you're clearly very convinced that the devs didn't do anything wrong here, and I can't say I'm particularly interested in an extended back and forth that repeatedly comes down to "if this had backfired it was the players who would have suffered for it," so I'm going to leave things there...

    Video Game News and Miscellany

Setting aside that word of mouth is a thing, the big benefit of buying on Steam is that you can refund within the first two hours, right? Buy the game, see if you're okay with what it asks you to do, refund if you're not? The math changes on that dramatically when the devs have arranged to...

    Video Game News and Miscellany

The requirement was listed but not enforced, and the devs were not actively telling people that it was going to be in the future. They've come out and publicly taken responsibility for that. Again, I'm not saying the outcome here wasn't positive, both for the devs and for their players. I do...

    Video Game News and Miscellany

Personally I'd rather the devs had been honest and communicative about their agreements so that the players had the necessary information to make informed decisions about what they did or did not want to buy into and support with their money. The end result of this may have been positive, but I...

    Video Game News and Miscellany

Leveraging their paid players' emotional reactions to renegotiate a contract they willingly entered into is a choice they made, but I'm not sure it's one I'd use to present them as a player-focused dev team or one that didn't make any mistakes along the way.

    Video Game News and Miscellany

Well that's a really bad look. Reads a lot like he expected this kind of backlash and was just counting on Sony backing down to avoid it even though it was created by his decisions, not theirs. I had similar feelings about their explanation of their anti-cheat choice and its capabilities around...

Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

I would like to know what a "street-fighting mentality" looks like with regards to "creating value" on a fast food menu. I can guess that it doesn't mean charging less or providing more or better food, so what's left?

Whine like a baby, now with 500% more drama!

You're right, calling them this makes me feel much better about how you're dehumanizing children and insisting that they can't possibly be helped.

Whine like a baby, now with 500% more drama!

Personally I find the first paragraph pretty offputting too, even recognizing that the reference isn't serious.

There will still be a significant number of people screeching that it's because of the Carbon Tax and blaming Trudeau for it.

    Video Game News and Miscellany

Slay the Spire 2 is officially announced. Also Inkbound is officially released with a major content update, including a genre-standard "if you make the run harder on yourself you can fight an extra, harder boss at the end" boss fight and a bunch of new quests and cosmetics.

    "What are you reading?" thread.

For what it's worth, the second book is the one that really stuck with me. Even then though, the takeaway was the ideas rather than the characters, who continue to exist to advance the plot and explore ideas rather than to act like believable people experiencing growth and change.

[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

I'm only 6 episodes in, but so far my impression is that the books do a much better job of introducing and developing the overarching ideas, while the show's doing a better job of having a single coherent and compelling story. I'm definitely very curious to see what they do with future seasons...

Milkshake Ducks - The official thread of falling from grace

You know, even as someone who never really connected with Harry Potter, it still makes me sad to see her reacting to the possibility that people don't read/don't like her work by saying "oh well, got your money!"

    Random Video Game Crap

On the other hand, a google search for "mentally stunted" does in fact auto-populate with results for "emotionally stunted," which seems to have a specific meaning that isn't the same as throwing out the r-word for the sake of being prejudiced and insulting. In this case, I think how you...

    A.I. is B.S.

That's literally what happened here though, right? An AI writing comedy and attributing it to someone who's long dead, presumably to get more views and income for whoever controls the AI? It's gross.
