As a complete asshat when it comes to non-JRPG games on controllers, I was surprised at how doable the game is. Granted, you die a lot learning (esp. when trying to do it with minimal spoilers/guidance), but it's not punishingly bad. Then again, I'm not done with it (I have no idea how far in I am).

Quickest TPK I've been in was due to some very unlucky rolls while fighting the giant frogs near the entrance to the ruined fort in Village of Hommlet. Bad encounter for a small 1st level party without hirelings (other than maybe a torchbearer).

Yeah, Classic is like flavortown compared to SW. Sort of a product of its time. Never played Noir, but I'd be tempted to ruin it by half-assing a conversion to Classic :P

I like Savage Worlds, though I prefer to run/play Deadlands with the older rules. It feels like a more on-rails version of Unisystem, with extra crunch in the combat section (I'd shy away from it if you prefer theatre-of-the-mind combat as opposed to minis). Great (like Unisystem) for plugging...

Got a cheapo IP camera to keep an eye on our cats while we were gone (caretakers come by every other day, but we're worrywarts). It's marketed as a baby monitor, so it has a 2-way microphone, allowing us to chat (i.e. utterly confuse) the kitters. Pictured is Alistar under the dining room...

Befriending and staying on the good side of the admins/secretaries at my IT job is a big part of how I survived it. They were about the only people (outside deans) that had any pull with all the PhDs and could corral them (or defuse their temper tantrums).
