$3 for every man, woman, and child in the US...

So it appears that at least one presidential candidate will be raising and spend about one billion dollars on their campaign.

I don't know anything about campaigning, but if you had a billion dollars and your goal was to be elected President of the United States of America, what would you spend it on specifically to attain your goal?

If someone could buy the presidency for a billion dollars, I know a few people would would, and several countries that wouldn't blink at it, so it's quite cheaply had for the right candidate. Still, it's $3 for each US citizen. More for each eligible voter, and about $9 for each person that voted in 2008 (ie, eligible voters that would actually get off their duff and vote).

That's just one candidate.

How do you spend a billion dollars in under a year and convince people you will be the best leader for them?

Donate it towards reducing the national debt, right at the campaign spending cutoff. The news media would do the advertising for me.

I raise a billion dollars, run a few newspaper adds then say "WELP! sorry guys. Here's hopping for 2016!"

Then I'd buy some new shoes 'cause mine are wearing out.
